Another badly oxidized green Cobalt
Lee goes to battle with a 20 year old oxidized nightmare.
The waterline was so bad that he was going to wetsand it, but he was out of sandpaper. He only gets done with the 3M Super Duty step in this video. He also takes off the letters emblems.
Heavy Cut and Perfect It EX AC to follow in subsequent videos.

Re: Another badly oxidized green Cobalt
Lee finishes the port side below the rubrail. There is quite the contrast at the end of the video between the mirror-like port side and the untouched starboard side.

Lee works on the bow nose for a long time and offers some tips on dealing with the riveted canvas snaps.

Re: Another badly oxidized green Cobalt
Interesting to see him move on once the oxidation was gone despite there still being some pretty obvious dark spots - I wonder if/how he addresses those separately?

Are you referring to the spider poop?

Re: Another badly oxidized green Cobalt
My eyes aren't that good that I can distinguish, but several of the spots are just to this side of the taped-up light on the bow.

He talks about the spots at 18:18. I’ve queued up the video below to that timestamp.

Huh - learned something new. I don't usually watch every part of his videos (they can be a bit long), but those are the same spots I was looking at.

You aren’t kidding that his videos can run long. Holy Moly.
In case anybody wasn’t up for watching the previous video, the spots in question were from spider poop. Apparently the sun will bleach the spots away in several days. Who knew?
In this episode Lee makes some progress on the starboard side before his wool pad exploded. Note that he has used a floor jack to raise the boat so that he can reach the section of hull that is normally behind the wheel well.

Re: Another badly oxidized green Cobalt
The exciting conclusion to this riveting video series is hereby presented. Lee spends an inordinate amount of time on the starboard nose and the starboard section between the windshield and bow seats. He takes a hard pass on the gelcoat under the swim platform and around the outdrive.

Re: Another badly oxidized green Cobalt
The spider poop stains will remain deep in the gelcoat for a few days/weeks but, once you've removed the source of the stain, even under a "wax" the Sun will eventually bleach them gone. You can use FSR™ to pull the stains out but I don't see the need and haven't in almost 30 years at this.jhnmdahl wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 11:52 am Interesting to see him move on once the oxidation was gone despite there still being some pretty obvious dark spots - I wonder if/how he addresses those separately?
