As you may have seen in my other post, I recently serviced the out-drive for my new-to-me 1998 220, 5.0, DP.
I first used the larger o-ring 3855081 that also fits the middle vent hole. This o-ring promptly tore before I even got the bolt all the way into the drain hole.
I then ordered the smaller o-ring 955981. This part number seemed to work, but after two weeks of setting in storage with the outdrive down, there was a 4-5 inch oil spot on the asphalt under the skeg.
How do I know which part number o-ring is correct?
It may be possible that the oil on the ground was residual from the mess I made changing the outdrive lube, but I did use the boat after installing the smaller o-ring before parking it at my storage spot. I figured any residual lube would have been washed out.

I used to order these kits as you only want to use them once. The dipstick maybe twice.RSoo1 wrote: Thu Jul 28, 2022 5:04 pm As you may have seen in my other post, I recently serviced the out-drive for my new-to-me 1998 220, 5.0, DP.

Re: 1998 DP Outdrive O-Rings
There is also a trick in putting the drain plug one on so you don't tear it up on the threads of the bolt. Put tape on the threads so they don't catch the threads.cmattj wrote: Tue Aug 23, 2022 10:49 pmI used to order these kits as you only want to use them once.
