Love it! I grew up on ski and started competing in freestyle events starting at age 9 or 10. I would get in over 100 days each year through high school and more like 30-45 days each year since then until Covid hit. We lived in the Sacramento area for 20 years and had a condo in Lake Tahoe so most of my skiing was in CA as an adult and I’m heading out there in a month to ski with some old neighbors/buddies. My 24 year old son is joining me - I taught him and both of his sister to ski when they were 3 years old as well and I remember how exhausting it was! I’m 10 years older than you but I still enjoy a ski trip more than any other vacation - it’s a great family activity that you can enjoy for a lifetime.

Very similar upbringing, only I was in Vermont. Started doing fun mogul competitions at various ski areas in middle school and then would do a handful of USSA events my freshman and sophomore year. I worshipped Nelson Carmichael and Edgar Grospiron as a kid. I then caught the tree and resort side country bug and focused my attention there until really this season. Even with that focus I was still a pretty good carver, but racing requires a different level of precision and timing. So, it's been a lot of fun to get into racing. It's something I feel I can get a lot better at where as I'm never going to be the bump skier I once was. 46 year old feet just don't move as quickly as 16 year old feet. Haha. Plus my days of catching big air are long behind me.

Yes, I was also into the USSA events and being a bit older than you, I grew up idolizing guys like Wayne Wong and Eddie Ferguson. I blew out my shoulder in 2010 and my knee in 2012 on a heli Trip to BC and that mellowed me out enough to keep my skis no more than 10 feet off the snow and retire from spinning an inverted aerials. One of my good buddies who is 51 is still doing the double back flips and other crazy tricks in the park or off of a cornice, lol.

Wow!

I'll still do small drops off cliffs in the 10' range if the snow is deep. I just don't huck off jumps anymore. We had a Nordic jumping team at my highschool that I did one year as well. 30M competition hill. Was pretty wild soaring 100+ feet through the air. I can't even imagine what the 120M jumps are like.

It's great to see others on here that embrace all seasons. While most are on the site cause they live for boating, and tolerate winter. There are some of us that live for winter(shoeshoeing, snowmobiling, skiing), and Cobalt ownership is the filler that makes the snowless months tolerable.

I get up every morning there is sufficient snow, and spend 1-2 hrs grooming trails so my neighbors can walk or snowshoe amongst woodland trails.
I groom about 10km(6 miles) ea day.

Due to Facebook posts it has become a little busier than we intended. A couple of days ago I was heading out on the sled to trim back some branches when I met a young couple. Buddy got mouthy saying that I was going to destroy the trail by taking a snowmobile on it. I laughed and explained that the snowmobile he was complaining about was what hauls the drag that turns 4' drifts into smooth trails. He giggled and said thanks for doing it everyday, and I'm sorry for being a Dick.

That's a great story, especially that he apologized. I have some neighbors on our peninsula who snowshoe and nordic ski and don't like snowmobiles. They also sail and paddle and don't like jet skis or surf boats. They would be happier on a less busy lake but they like to complain. The can't understand how we enjoy both the motorized and non-motorized sports

There was a time when I loved snow skiing more than anything.
After spending a whole winter in Steamboat Springs, I went to Texas and water skied. After a few minutes, I just dropped the rope.
Two reasons: I'm not that great on water and single plane seemed boring, and second, I could snow ski with contacts but not water ski. Bad eye sight made it a lot less fun.
