Hi all,

I picked up Taco windshield latch for my 2001 262. The old windshield bumper broke and I really like the latch-type on the newer boats.

Since it came with no screws or bolts, I am not sure how the latch should be fastened. There are holes and an adhesive backing on both the latch and catch arm. The arm will have to be screwed to the windshield frame, but should the latch be screwed or bolted to the boat?

I don't know if I can access the latch bolts from the head compartment.

Not sure of the latch type you mentioned there C262. Any pics for reference?

I have the same latch ready to install. From removing the interior on my 240, yes you would have to remove 2 covers in tbe head to get access to the back. It's a royal PIA so I'm going to drill pilot holes first and just screw it in. This latch doesn't take any extra force ( or shouldn't anyway) so it should be fine. Just be sure to use a drill bit thats not too small that you would split the gelcoat, but to too big that the screws dont bite.

If you are using the Taco latch that comes standard on our 262's (as pictured below), you can just fasten it by using screws.

I would carefully mark the hole location.
Place some masking tape over that and pencil the hole marks that are visible thru the tape.

Like Ytmsn said, use a drill that won't be too large for the screw type.

After you drill the holes, remove the masking tape from the fiberglass, and fill with some clear silicone. Then screw down the Taco latch. No need for thru bolts on that piece.

This is helpful as I need to replace the deck mounted piece -- the catch pin on mine doesn't work.

Found the Taco latch on Amazon for $50. Nada on eBay. Anyone know of a cheaper source? It's a lot of scratch for a bad pin!

I haven't looked for a cheaper latch. But it is amazing the force that really is put on that latch. When your turning and the wind catches it there is plenty of force going against it. Yes screws should hold it. Be careful with stainless screws if you make the hole too small they go in very hard. Counter sink our round the edges on the gel.

Ooh I like that latch. I just have a cheap nylon strap on mine.

I think you need to update that to make it safer. It's better than trying to replace that center section of the windshield.lmao

Yes. No less than 1/2 inch and no greater than 5/8 inch so as to not puncture the head ceiling.
