2005 220 VP 5.7 won't start

Post by TxCobalt22005 »

Hello! I went out on the lake yesterday with two fully charged batteries. Ran around for about an hour, stopped for lunch and then went out again before I anchored. I did run almost full throttle for a few minutes to the anchor location. Tried to start her after 20 minutes of being anchored and only got a clicking sound. A few times the starter did engage but just for a second. I tried both batteries and tried to using a battery booster but could not get her to start. Thinking starter and/or solenoid. Any thoughts on what I should try? TYIA!

So glad you found us TXC220...

I have had this happen with new batteries. The culprit was a loose battery connection on the battery terminal.
Get a 1/2" wrench; loosen; gently tap on the battery connector to make sure it is seated on the terminal; then tighten. Problem was solved for us.

Others will chime in shortly.

And welcome aboard mate.

If it wouldn’t crank from the jump battery, I would check the main circuit breakers (probably 3 of them, on the front of starboard exhaust riser). If any of these are tripped, motor will not run.

Thanks so much for the replies! I will check the battery connections again to make sure nothing became loose (it was a little rough that day) and will check the main circuit breakers.

Checking the battery connections is a good idea. Also check the connections at the starter/solenoid and the engine block ground.
