I’m not sure how but I’m getting damage on the underside near the bow on a 2023 r6 surf. I am not hitting anything I’m aware of in the water or the dock. Looking at the picture the damage is on both sides (red) but no damage on the keel (green). Being the lowest point if it was hitting ground it would damage the keel first and striking an object I would not be getting symmetrical damage on either side.

We trailer the boat every time we use it and thinking it may be hitting the bunks but don’t recall anything happening.


Anyone else have similar damage or does this look like trailer damage?

Has it ever been put in the water with a forklift? I don't see how your trailer could mark the gelcoat with a black color.

Have you checked the bunks for a bolt or nail under the carpet? Where the bunks are bolted to the trailer.

On our Venture trailer, when they carpeted the bunks, Venture used staples to fill a knot hole, causing scratches.

If you're using a slip of any sort, either restaurant or resort, I'd doubt check and make sure there is nothing barely under the waters surface. Ie: Heavy cables or dock bracing. Just a thought.

Thanks for the help, Just to follow up it definitely appears to be the trailer causing the issue. I’m not sure why, I’ve tried deeper and more shallow but the chines rub on the front bunks. You can see where it makes contact and all the damage is on the leading edge causing the gel coat to chip off. Boat has 75 hours and we trailer each time we use so it’s on and off the trailer a lot.

I’m not sure it’s something with the trailer or what I’m doing

What boat do you have and does the trailer say the same model? Maybe an r4 on an r5 trailer or something like that? I would contact the trailer manufacturer if everything matches. Does seem very close to the chines in the middle. I have a 7 on an 8 trailer and it needed some adjustments but nothing that would damage the boat.
