Prop & Outdrive Help

Had the dealer refinish the props and one of them has flared edges, but the other doesn’t? I’ve never seen one that looks like this….have you?
As for the outdrive, my expectation was a better finish. Doesn’t look like they sanded anything which left previously existing deep scratches in finish with a fresh coat over them, and poor job masking parts off. Is this typical of a $900 outdrive refinish job?

And leading edge looks like they completely missed painting it?

Wow...just wow! Next time send your props to someone who knows what they are doing. I wouldn't run your boat with that prop until they get checked by a real prop repair shop and balanced.
As far as the paint job is concerned, the best way is to take the drive off the boat and paint...that includes removing the pivot housing and painting it separately.

You got robbed. The marina should be ashamed of them selves. The paint job looks like a 12 year old could have done better. Sorry man but id be pissed and refuse to pay

I've stripped and and painted my own outdrive, and did a better job than that. And I was learning on the job.

Sorry to see that you paid good money for what appears to be a substandard job. I really like the local propeller shop here in MN, so I'll give them a shout out as someone who might be able to provide good feedback on your props and/or fix them:
https://propmd.com/
Their prices and timeliness have always been reasonable, and the people who do the work are pretty knowledgeable.

+1 on PropMD, I have used them several times with good results. As far as your outdrive painting - you got a rattle can job, could have done as good or better yourself for the cost of a few cans of Volvo paint. For $900 I would have expected the drive to be removed, somewhat disassembled, prepped, primed painted similar. Overspray and painting over bolts and so forth is just sloppy. It's possible to get a pretty good job out of a rattle can, but it takes lots of prep and patience - something most dealerships not in the business of painting would not do.

Thank you to all who replied. Took it back to the Cobalt dealer and they are going to repaint the outdrive. They were less than happy, with zero apologies for the trouble and another 4 hour drive time investment for the drop off and eventual pick up, but hopefully it will be right the second time. They will also be replacing the prop with another one. I inspected the replacement today and it looked as it should.
I think that from here on out I will be taking the boat to an independent mechanic instead of the dealer. It’s apparent that unless you are buying a new boat @ $250k they don’t much care about your service business.

That has been my experience. Once you stroke the big check all of the promises fade away. Disappointing!

Yea, I only reach out to the dealer for warranty issues. I think I know more about the boat than they do. For prop work take it to a prop house next time.

I work at a dealer and I'm sorry you feel this way all of you. The dealer is where you should get the most help. They don't fix props they send them to the prop guy down the road. Lots of dealerships have a separate paint and gel dept. But they all vary. Sorry for some of you not having a good one by you that shouldn't take away from the rest of them.

As BBP points out, it's more the people than the type of business. There are good and bad dealerships, and good and bad independent shops. Glad to hear your problems appear to be sorted out.
