Cooler options for R6 surf?

I have an R6 surf and the igloo cooler it came with doesn't keep ice cold for very long. Does anyone know of a third party hard sided cooler that would fit in the R6 starboard side cooler area? I know I can upgrade to the ice mule soft sided cooler from Cobalt but I wasn't sure about the zipper- I like the idea of simply opening up a hard top cooler. It doesn't have to be a yeti- but ideally something in that quality range but open to the best value for the price. Let me know if you have upgraded - what did you get? Or if you are using the ice mule cooler - how is that working for you? Thanks!

My built in cooler doesn't do well either ( I know, I don't have an R6, but the 242) on its own, but if I add a few Yeti Ice packets to the cooler (inside with the cold products) it does a LOT better. That may be the best option.

I also have Esky and Yeti coolers that both work better with the Yeti Ice as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either of those (or an RTIC) if you're willing to spend the $$$ on one of those coolers.

We opted for the soft sided ice mule and the zipper is a PIA so we just leave it open but as a consequence it doesn't keep ice very well either. I would also like to change to a regular cooler... I have yet to do any research to see what fits. I too would be appreciative of any suggestions.

Thanks for replies. I put a phone call into the dealer where I bought the boat and they are going to ask Cobalt and get back to me. Once I hear- I will post the specs to this thread.

NautiWeasel- Thanks for the tip on the ice mule sipper cooler- the main reason I didn't want that one was the zipper and you just confirmed my suspicion- so thank you for saving me some money and time!

I believe this is the base cooler that comes with the boat --> https://www.westmarine.com/igloo-36-qt. ... R7EALw_wcB

I'm trying to reverse engineer the dimensions and look around on yeti and RTIC for models that fit

Open to any and all suggestions!

I wonder if you buy a soft sided cooler and with a little money you can "convert" the zipper to a magnetic closure like Yeti did on the their recently recalled softpack coolers. On my yeti 18 soft side, there's a lip about 1" wide that could easily fit some rare earth magnets that would keep the lid closed w/o having to zip it. Maybe don't buy Yeti, but a less expansive brand so if you mess it up, you're not down 350 bucks.

Take a look at the softpack RTIC's They are a Yetti knock off but may keep better then the igloo. Any gaps between cooler and compartment fill with ICE. I have a 2021 R5 and the integrated coolers in it are thinly insulated. I have an RTIC that fits nicely under the passenger seat

Yeti just recalled all soft coolers and products that use magnets. Once I get my $$$ gift card, I think I am going to buy a 45 tundra

Does this include the tumblers?

Got my eyes on a 40 roadie with my recall $$$ - I'm hoping it's a little more "boat friendly" than my Tundra 45.

Would the wheels and handle scratch up the boat interior?

Looks like the handles are well insulated so they won't scuff anything. We have sea grass so I don't think the wheels will hurt anything more than the standard rubber feet of a cooler. The roadie has a design "feature" where the wheels are off the ground when it's in its not being rolled. There's about a 1/4" clearance. So as long as we don't roll it on the vinyl I think we'll be OK. Thoughts?
