Finally a Cobalt convert

Hello! After much patience through the pandemic price gouging, we finally purchased our first Cobalt!! A 2015 R3.

. We are coming from 1994 Chaparral 19 footer. We take possession tomorrow and cannot wait to take her out to stretch her legs! We plan on a few modifications off the rip and will probably ask a million questions! I can't complain about our old chaparell as we have kept it in the family for all of our first time boat owners! It was great to learn on but have heard so many great things about Cobalt, we had to make the switch! And upgrade of course.

First, we want a mooring cover...it comes with snap on bow and hull covers but looking for more protection. Is the OEM mooring cover worth it? Is it better to get a custom fit after market over the tower cover?

Congratulations! Great choice in boats and I don’t just mean the beautiful R3. I grew up on my uncle’s Chapparal and they are well made, excellent boats. I think you’re going to be very happy with your new vessel!

.
So glad you found us R0610!
Chaparral boats are terrific but I think you will enjoy the Cobalt “upgrade”. How is she powered?
Thanks for the pic and welcome aboard mate!

She's a beauty! I am a recent convert from a long history of SeaRay ownership. As far as a mooring cover, here is a picture of the cover that came with mine - this is a custom cover the previous owner had made skirts to cover the entire boat. I put this on for winter storage, and use the Cobalt cockpit / bow cover during the season. My boat is stored indoors for what it is worth. You can see the other Cobalt in the background of the picture, that's an R6 with the Cobalt mooring cover on it.

Nice mooring cover.
And nice listing of boat ownership in your history.

Welcome. We have a R3 similar to yours. Love it.
If you ask a million questions here, you'll get a million answers (most require you spending more money).
We're happy with our factory mooring cover. There are several threads on here in reference to covers.

The mooring cover is great. I have it and use it when I travel. I had an over the tower one made for when my boat sits on the trailer which is about 98% of the year.

I can vouch for the OEM Covers. If you are planning on storing your boat out side then you'll probably want more coverage than what it offers. But as far as trailering goes all mine of worked great. Sometimes we have to keep our boat outside for a a week or so it does the job in that instance. I don't think I'd use if for long term outside storage though.

All about the dark hulls and white boot stripe-great looking boat.
Get the OEM cover-100%. Grew up with other shop built custom covers on past boats but there's no comparison. We keep ours on a lift on Lake Lanier and it's quick on/quick off to use and rides down the road at 60+ when we trailer with no worries.
