VP 380 Transom Assembly Replacement

Post by TX777 »

I’ll be having the transom assembly replaced on our boat this winter. Leaving cost out of the equation, is this a repair best performed by a Cobalt dealer or an independent mechanic? The independent noted engine out as part of the work so that got me wondering which is best given that it’s a fairly major job? Thanks!

It's a fairly major job. Either the dealer or a verified Volvo shop should be fine. With engine coming out, use this time to tidy up the bilge; re-seal any thru-hull fittings, clean and maybe re-coat the bilge and even touch-up paint the engine block. I'd replace any potential maintenance items as well, i.e. bilge pump, impeller, plugs, wires, hoses, etc. Much easier now vs. standing on your head later.
