Underwater Lights

Post by SAB220 »

2004 220

So its well below freezing and I'm thinking about underwater lights on the boat this spring. I'm going to have someone else do it because I can't trust myself to drill the hole correctly UNDER the waterline. Can someone tell me about underwater light BRANDS and the advantages before I begin this project. How do I change colors? What brand does Cobalt use?
Thanks

There's a thread somewhere on here about an underwater light that is treaded and just goes into the back drain plug. The only thing you have to do is figure out how to wire it. If we go with lights, I'll probably try this method. You can still use the plug, it just hangs down when draining the bilge.

I think I found it:

The picture in the link you attached is a Diablo drain plug. Like I said I wish it was darker outside to get the full effect. Sea blaze makes real nice lights.

I went through Bruce's build thread I missed the highjack. It all looked good. It's a great thread though.

OceanLED is what Cobalt put in my R7 - specifically the "Sport" line.

I'm looking at switching out my entire system (inside and underwater) to Shadow-Caster to allow control from one location (Garmin, app, etc). I just need to see if the mounting holes line up because I don't want to re-drill holes. I think they will.....

Thanks for the threads. I'm going with the RWBG Lumitec Seablaze X2 lights. Lumitec says if you want dimmer you have to find a aftermarket one. Looking at these threads also begs the question about swim platform lights. More money.

I love my Seablaze X2. I just have the Blue/white ones. Work fine for how I use my boat.

I bought some of these for my swim platform lights.

I used the stainless steel 11mm ones in a warm color.

I also put in a timer circuit so that with a quick on/off of the power switch, the swim platform lights will stay on for 10 minutes. You can set the timer chip to whatever delay you want. I have another timer for my interior lights. I also put in a momentary switch that will turn both the interior and the swimstep lights on for 10 minutes.

Very nice. I'd use that a lot.

Curious on the Plug Lights. Do you worry about wires coiling when screwing in the plug? Or can you turn plug counter clock wise before inserting to offset the coiling?

Mine has a tiny drain plug built in it. So you don't have that issue. My last one didn't and that wasn't a big deal either but the cheap light sucked and that's why I bought the expensive one.

I must've missed it somewhere. What light did you end up going with for your drain plug light?
