Replacing factory stereo in a 2013 232

Post by Doug.martin »

I *think* the factory stereo in a 232 is a Sony head unit and remote on the helm. (Forgot to verify last time I went to look the boat over).

Assuming it is a Sony, curious if anyone knows if updating that stereo to a newer Sony head unit that has Bluetooth is a straightforward process, or if connections have changed enough that it is a bigger project that will involve new wiring and possibly a new remote keypad on the helm.

Same issue here on a 2013 296. Not sure if the stereo is working properly and not sure what to replace it with.

Check these guys out...owned by Garmin.

I replaced my Sony head units and pucks with a Fusion unit and bluetooth pucks. Sounds and works great. I did have to do some splicing at the head unit, but it was pretty easy.

The biggest issue you could have is the connector at the head unit. They switched from a large connector to a small connector. Pretty basic. If it had a small one you will be all set Prob plug and play. What model had unit is in it now? Any pictures of it?

Thanks, will need to take pics next time I go see the boat. Not taking possession until early January...

I did this back in '17 on my 2004 220 and it was plug and play. Remotes worked as well. Changed mine to the M50BT Sony media player. Still going strong.
