I just got back from flying down on a rescue mission yesterday (how dramatic) to Bonita Springs, Florida where I have a house, and where my sister lives.
Of course, she has a pet that can't fly, so I had to drive them back here. I'm so happy we did this yesterday and today because the roads are now parking lots.

Hopefully, there will be something left when this storm is over.
Sure doesn't look good.
There are a lot of people down there who simply can't get out. Gas is gone, and now traffic up and down the I-95 I-75 corridors now pose a real issue.

Praying for Houston & surrounding areas for cleanup efforts & now for Florida evacs as Irma prepares to do battle against the mainland.

Well I'm sure I'm heading back there next week, if it's livable. Without power, there is no air. 90 degrees, 100% humidity. No water. Wreckage around, people losing everything..
I guess us northerners can't imagine..

Lots of family on each coast of Florida...very scary as they sit and wait for Irma to arrive. Praying for everyones safety.

We have no idea up here what they will be going through.

My house down there is right in the path of the eye in Bonita Springs. We just totally remodeled it. New baths, carpet, paint, appliances, infinite hot water, beds we've never slept in and a shower I've never used. I'm guessing everything will be destroyed.

Here's the bathroom I was hoping to use for the first time this fall. 10-12' surge expected.

Some perspective... We are safe here as long as that track doesn't keep moving west much further. Stores even here ran out of water days ago.

We are going to get the worst of it with a direct shot from the east side of the eye. I'm expecting it to be destroyed.
My sister is out of there, and that is all that matters.

What hurts is that we have some wonderful neighbors who live there along with my sister who lives there 365 that stand to lose everything. Household workplace etc. And most devastating, many may lose their lives.

Glad in 1300 miles away.

My mistake! I was thinking Bonita Springs was on the east side. Yes best of luck and hopefully your friends are all safe. Nasty storm headed thir way!

Thanks so much for the thoughts, it's heartfelt. But please send the prayers on to others who are in danger of losing their lives. We're out and our stuff down there is just material.

In the end it's just stuff Tusc. Stuff can be replaced. I'm glad your sister is not going to be there. My brother lives in Aransas Pass Texas (20 miles east of Corpus Christy) where the eye went through on Harvey.

His father inlaw wouldn't leave, so they boarded my brothers house up and stayed. Apparently the Dad has been through lots of hurricanes, born and raised in that area, bla bla... and my brother and his wife felt bad for him, so they stayed. He said he wouldnt have forgiven himself if they lefft pop behind and something happened to him. It worried my folks really bad and pissed me off. He's smarter than that, right?

His house is still standing, but with lots of damage. He said it was his first and last hurricane, and if there is ever a next time he's leaving, with no debate or argument. 8 hours of pounding wind, rain and debris hitting the side of the house. At one point he said his walls were flexing 4 to 6 inches, and he thought the house was going to shred. 4 or 5 hours into it he knew he had made a HUGE mistake.

We live in tornado alley, but a tornado will pass by and its over. You don't really worry about it unless it's coming down your block. But you can't just move over for a storm like that..

Driller talked about perspective. We have tornados, down there they have hurricanes, out west is earthquakes, east is politicians, and y'all have ice water! And big ass waves...

I'll be praying for your sister and all the folks in the path of Irma.
