Humminbird Depth Finder circa 1997

My 1997 233 has a Humminbird HDR200RM depth finder that displays but the numbers just jump around. Finally figured out that is because signal wire is not connected to transducer and transducer is messed up/busted. I can get the Humminbird Boat Angled Transducer XAP-6-16 online.
Has anyone recently had success reviving their 1997ish depth finder with a new transducer?
What epoxy did you use to mount transducer?
Was it difficult "pulling" the wire from the bigle up to the dashboard?
