Cobalt Numbering Designation

Post by Driller »

So I have been participating in the forum and am curious what all the Cobalt Numbering designations mean.

I've looked around on their site and can't seem to find the history without opening a manual for each boat.

For instance, I own a 2011 242. Obviously the 24 generally refers to the length, but what does the "2" designate? I know there are 240, 24SD, 24SX, 260, 262, 263, etc.

Then we add the WSS as in 242 WSS. I understand the WSS that one's easy.

Does anyone have a link to a reference?

The 2 is twenty feet the 4 is 4 feet more. 1 is liquid. Teens. 3 thirty.
Plus even numbers are bow riders and odd are cuddlies
So that's not all true either. Hackers 360 is a cuddly so not all even numbers once you get into the big boys are bow riders.

You bring up a great point Ytmsn.

Plus, recently we have R5, R7..etc.
...and now with Malibu in the picture, you may see it change once again.

For a time it made sense with even numbers being bow rider models and odd as the cuddy version...i.e. 262 vs 263. 343 is a cuddy etc.

It is certainly getting convoluted now.

Actually the letter "R" in Latin is also known as the canine letter with how it's pronounced using a growl sound.

Maybe we should move this post to the water dog thread for Tuscany's R5!

So, a 240 and a 242 are both 24' bowriders. I'm assuming the designation changed with a certain model year?

Yes and model changes. The 240 did not have the rear sunpad that's one big reason I would go to the 242.
