Hello everyone. Found this forum as I was looking for a community as my wife and I dive into our first Cobalt and first boat purchase. We secured a build slot back in November and just put the order details in last week on a build that starts on the 9th. Should get her here in March and couldn't be more excited!
We live in and around the Seattle, WA area and will largely be staying in Lake Washington. Decided on the Surf model as we have a 2 older children and family in the area with teenage children as well that we'll want to boat with after COVID gets under control. We took a R6 non-Surf out for a test ride and loved it. Expecting to love the Surf edition even more.
Went with Ebony hull with Shale accent stripe to go with the black cockpit trim and a black electric arch. Interior we went for caramel/carbon.
Looking forward to learning from everyone here as to how best to extract every bit of enjoyment from this Cobalt!
Dave

Well congrats. Not sure how a r6 surf is someone's first boat? Just astonishes me on that. Pretty crazy. You will enjoy it. Are you going to trailer it? Get a slip? Or dry stack it? Do you know a good gel person?

It's a good move. As I often say to customers....
If you can afford to, "Buy your last boat first. It prevents the ongoing hit of 2' itis "

Welcome and congrats on the boat. Take some time with the boat with you and your wife to get used to how it handles. Adding lots of people can make it much harder to drive bc so many watching. It takes a while to build the muscle memory in your hand with the throttle.
What a wonderful new boat and prob no better place to enjoy it

Thanks Big Block Power. I've actually been looking to get into a Cobalt for a few years and only just decided to pull the trigger. We tend to vacation occasionally near lakes and rented boats for water sports. With COVID, made the decision easier since we can quarantine on the boat if needed and traveling to our vacation destinations won't be the same for a while.
We were planning on a used R5 Surf but when a fresh R6 was at our local showroom, we just had to take a close look and a test ride. That sealed the deal with the Mrs. and well... if she's happy with the purchase, will make my enjoyment much smoother.

Thanks willyswagon. Not sure this will be our last given my wife really liked the look of a new A29 on the showroom floor recently... I can see a larger yacht class in the future... hopefully much further in the future as I'd like to enjoy this boat for years to come first. Famous last words I'm sure!

Thanks ajcampen. Definitely planning to just be my wife and I for awhile. My son who is 23 and I will be the primary drivers so we'll get comfortable with her first before anyone else gets on. Still waiting for vaccination for folks too so easy decision there. Hoping we can enjoy the 4th of July out on the water this year but we'll see. That's still a ways off.

Hey Dave. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
You’re going to make some great memories on that surf model. Be very careful in the shallows and trailer loading/ unloading. The surf outdrive is a different animal when it comes to trimming.
How is she powered?
Pictures are a must.
Again welcome aboard mate!

Congratulations on your new boat. Saw my first R6 a couple of weeks ago, and I loved it. You and your family will love it too. Looking forward to pics.

Thanks AsLan7. And to answer both you and Big Block Power - I'll be dry dock storing the boat as getting a slip that is accessible is challenging here or gets a bit crazy in terms of monthly costs. I may have an option to get a covered slip at the same location and if I can, I'm tempted to grab it. I did not get a trailer and right now, not sure I want to try and tackle getting her loaded and unloaded at the different lakes. Maybe next summer once I am much more comfortable handling her in tight spaces.
I opted for the Volvo 380 for a little more power given the weight of the Surf model and with enough passengers eventually, she should still be able to get up and provide entertainment.
Pictures will be posted once I take delivery in March. Right now I just have a simple render from the Design your Dream Boat page.

Was able to take delivery today and take her out on the water for the first time along with my 23 year old son! What a beautiful boat all around! I could not be happier with her! Photos finally of my baby attached.

Welcome and congratulations.
Beautiful boat. My wife and I have a better relationship due to the quality time we spend on the lake alone.
Good luck.
