I haven't talked to anyone at a dealer or cobalt. But have seen people post in the facebook group that Cobalt is no longer taking orders for the R3/5/7. That they have been discontinued. I also noticed that they cancelled the A40

Well it is being replaced by the R8. So I wouldn't say they are cancelling it. Just transitioning to the new model.

I wouldn't say cancelled...just moving to the R8 as tgrace98 says above. I tried to see if I could jump down to an R5 from my R6 when I saw the scalding price tag and it wasn't possible. R6's from here on out.

The Cobalt website still has the design your dream function for the r3.5.and 7. I would assume they would update that?

I'm sure they will. I was told last year in advance of the release of the R6 that Cobalt would be building out some R5, R7 while also starting production of the replacement R6, R8, and finally R4. After that, they would only be producing the new model. There was never any intention to make both lines ongoing.

I think this is pretty common in most industries. I know that Dodge and Ram have been offering the "classic" minivan and the classic Ram 1500 alongside the new generation models, but I think that is more of an exception than the norm.

I'm sure Cobalt has done its research and thinks it knows its customers so time will tell if they are right. So far we have had several people posting on the forum about their new R series purchases and order books must be busy because deliveries seemed to be stretching out compared to when I ordered my 2019 model.

I must have gotten an r5 order in just in time, full confirmation details from Cobalt indicating a production start date of 11/10/20.

Interesting the specs have an R5 at 4800# and the R6 at 5800#. I wonder what all could be different to account for 1000#. The R6 is only a few inches longer.

Primarily the new stringer system with fully finished gel boat finish plus some hull changes.

I'm still not buying that.

How many stringers in a 25' boat? 10 maybe? So each one is ~100 lbs heavier than in an R5?

No way. There's something else going on.

A year ago last March at our local boat show I met with a long time Cobalt factory rep who told me that the new bond in stringer system would add about 950 lbs to the R5 hull structure, the benefits being more strength, more solid ride and a gel coat finished inner structure which would eliminate the need for carpeted finishes in the exposed cavities. Now you don’t have to “buy it”, but just call Cobalt and ask to speak to George.

Interesting that they are discontinuing the R3 without releasing the New R4. Has anyone heard a R4 release date. I thought that I heard the R3 is there best selling boat.

I agree, a 24' boat is right in the sweet spot for a lot of buyers (including me). they must have enough supply of R3 and orders on receipt to be able to axe it and wait for the R4. I cant wait for the reveal. i want to know if they put a head in it.
