How many Blue Motors ?

Tried to research this but can't seem to find an answer. I guess I'm one of the select few on the board that still likes speed but also wants the styling and refinements of the Cobalt. I also realize it's not your typical boat to have both.
That said, does anyone know if the 272 was the smallest size in the fleet that came with the blue motor? The second question is how many of them are
out there? Appreciate the help guys.

I know I have seen 252/253's from the late 90's and early 2000's with Blue Power. There is one in Winfield about 30 miles from where I live. I've also seen several 262's that had them.

Great question Baja38ss!

I call these the glory years of Cobalt production as they offered staggering amounts of power in their lineup. Wish they would get back to their roots in this respect. (You'll notice current brochures after 2013 don't even list the power options anymore and blue Merc engines are not even on the radar screen).

Beginning with the 2001 -2004 262/263 series, Cobalt started offering the blue series 470HP Merc 500 EFI option. Ironically I don't see it as an offering in the 2005 brochure. But in 2006 Cobalt offered the 500HP 525 EFI with either the Bravo 1 XR or even rarer Bravo 3 XR drive!

Then in 2007 it was discontinued. The hull was rebranded the 272 in 2008 and the topside (seating and helm layout) configuration was changed. Like you mentioned the blue 525 Merc was still an available option in the 272 hull. :P

But the smallest Cobalt in the fleet to ever offer a blue series Merc was the 252....for ONLY one year.
As seen below, it was offered only in 2001. The 252 hull was discontinued in 2002 and therefore the 260 series then became the smallest in the line to carry on these rare blue bird powerplants. The 252 hull made a comeback starting in 2007 but no blue motor options were offered for that hull size.

Hope this helps shed a little light on some of the best Cobalts to ever come out of the world headquarters in Neodesha. 8-)

I like the sounds of this thread! I have a red engine does that count for anything?

Are you wanting a 272? I found a blue one for sale also this weekend.

Here's a 272 for sale with the 525 blue motor in Seattle. Lots of hours, curious how many top end jobs (I've heard generally every 250-400hrs).

They are out there but few and far between. Even finding an 496HO can be tough

Anybody else know of any blue motors for sale? Hit CL,FB up pretty hard. The one in Seattle had top end done at the 500 hour mark but there's 400 hours on top of that now. So I've been told it's due for total rebuild at the cost of 9-11k for total top and bottom.

Not sure if that white 272 sold? I think Matt had his contact info.

I approve this thread. Has anyone ever seen an actual 252 with the blue beast? I would love to know the top speed of that boat.

There is a 253 at Winfield lake (about 30 minutes from me) with a blue 500-525 (McKeller could tell you for sure) that I’ve seen YouTube videos of it hitting 70 mph. Obviously a cuddy version of our boat, but heavier and impressive.

Do you have that YouTube link SD? Are you sure it wasn't a 263? It would be one special 253 since that combo was never offered. The 253 was no longer built in 2001 when the blue motors were introduced. Only the 252 and 25LS had the option in that size category...again for only one year--2001. Either the 253 owner custom replaced his factory engine with a 500EFI back then (or the more recent 525EFI) or the original purchaser was able to somehow work with the dealer to have the 2001 blue motor installed at the factory into his late build 2000 253. Would love to see a pic of this anomaly.
