CS3 to a R5...big step up?

Hello,
At the age of 63, and after 30 plus years of living 4 blocks from the lake I purchased my first boat, that was in 2018. It was from dealer stock, a leftover 2017 CS3, pretty much basic with few options, bimini, covers, and a VP 280.
Well anyway......... fast forward to today and it seems I have found the possible need for an upgrade to an R5 and was curious as to whether there will be a substantial difference in the way an R5 will handle lake chop, wakes, wind and overall performance in comparison to the CS3 (now named CS23)
Thank you in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Hey NYrob. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
I think you’ll find the R5 a step up in design and handling from your slightly smaller 23 footer. Folks really seem to like it’s driveability. I’m not sure a big step up is the right word. Maybe more like a luxurious but fun step up.
Any pics?
Again welcome aboard mate!

I think it would be a huge upgrade. Totally different ride. Go for it but don't get the 280 please. Min 350. Tabs are nice too if you boat in rough water. The rest I'm sure you know. Any pictures of your current beautiful ride?

Yes it will be a big upgrade handling and wake crushing wise. Like bbp said 350 min and for sure get trim tabs as they also help with handling the wake. You can bring the bow down while keeping the drive angle the same to cut through the wake. Now let’s get one on order before they stop making them

Even an R3 I think would be an upgrade due to deeper V-hull, added weight, larger engine, and higher freeboard.
But I'm biased.

I had a 220S, which is similar in configuration to the CS23, and upgraded to an R5--total game-changer in terms of handling big lake chop. Significantly heavier and most of all a lot more freeboard. The 220 pounded and got doused with spray going through big wakes, and the R5 cuts through much more elegantly -- a knife through buttah. You'll be happy with it.

I upgraded from a 226 to a R5 in 2018. Great boat on Lake George, handles all the chop with no issues, you'll be pleased if you upgrade. Recognized your pic as LG right away, the Queen of Lakes!
