INPUT NEEDED! 2006 Cobalt 226

Post by ocurtis »

Hi All,
I am still looking for my first boat. I decided to step down and get a boat for 1-2 year before going all in on a R5!

I have found a 2006 226 with the 6.2l mpi engine. boat appears in perfect shape (for the age) with only 162 hours and still original owner.

can I get input on the value of such a boat? it comes on a tandem axel trailer with electric brakes.

thanks. was thinking $25k for the boat (it is in excellent shape with very low hours) and another $2-3k for the trailer - $28k total.

the guy is asking $45k! I told him when he is ready to go waaaaaay lower to call me but I couldnt even make an offer that he wouldnt be offended by

Yecks. I think I know that boat ad. I think I said something to him too.
Is not a BB. That would bring $35. 226 don't hold there value like a 220.
I had a offer over 40 for mine and I turned it down. I just couldn't do it.
This year market is up there. 28 is on the way high end.

Yeah, for $45k it better come with a Big Block and a pair of new jet skis!

The market is a little insane right now, but better deals can be found. If you aren't keeping it long term, I'd hate to see you way overpay and in a couple of years when the market comes back you loose $20k

I won't be buying but I found another entry boat-

1999 cobalt 190 w/5.0, 174 hours, original owner and it appears in shape for the age. $13,000 - I can't find anything in that price range that isn't a crappy beat up Bayliner - hard to imagine I can't get my money back from this

I'll start a new thread if/when I get it tomorrow. It's a starter boat that I hope to use or a season.

Yeah definitely seems like a better deal. I'd probably go ahead and plan on changing the oil, filter, fuel/water separator and impeller and you should be good to go.

Alpha or Bravo drive?
Carbed or EFI?

Alpha three drive, appears to be EFI but I'll know tomorrow when I go look at it

This is the only alpha 3 drive around. Cobalt 190 was the only boat to use it!

Than maybe it's a bravo 3 - it has the double impellers, the picture listed doesn't show the mode but he wrong alpha 3 in the description.

Yes it's a b3 drive if it's a merc. That's a crazy nice set up for that boat. Only bad thing is it will slow it down.

Guess it will be bullet proof haha! What's the advantage of the bravo 3 on a boat this small?

It will jump on plane. You won't have steering wander at no wake speeds.
It may need a driver shower if there isn't one already on it.
Make sure the seating arrangement works for you. There isn't much storage on that boat.

What's a driver shower? Curious what comfortable cruising speed on this boat will be.

I'm aware of the lack of storage - it's a small boat!
