2000 246 on an R5 trailer

I currently own a 2000 246 that has been on our dock since purchase therefore we do not have a trailer for it. I am looking to buy a used R5 surf from out of state that comes with a trailer. Since I will not be able to trade the 246 to the out of state dealer I will need to sell it myself. Would my 246 fit properly on the R5 trailer? I have little to no experience trailering and towing a boat. It would make the logistics of selling it so much easier if so. The 246 is in beautiful shape and only has 330 hours if anyone here is interested.

Hey PK. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
Those two hulls are completely different. The length is similar but you’ll have to make some major adjustments on the bunks and winch depending on the trailer model. Do you have any pics of the trailer? It may help folks to assess the adjustability of your trailer to fit another boat.

Here is a surf trailer on the right compared to a standard R series in the left.

Surf trailer bunks are raised 3-4 inches for forward drive.
They require you going deeper to launch and retrieve.
Since you have limited towing experience but the correct trailer for that hull design.
I could go on about chine widths etc but you can destroy a hull With bunks resting on the Chines.
Your family, and insurance company will thank you!

Thanks for the responses. I spoke with the out of state dealer and my local dealer. They both thought the R5 trailer would work for my 246, but I am still unsure based on your responses. You guys sound like you know what you are talking about! Not having a trailer for my 246 makes me think my only option is to purchase our new boat from a local dealer and trade it in. Pics of the new boat an trailer below. Threw in one of the 246 as well!

I wonder if we could get a 262 or a 263 or a r3 on that trailer?

If the deal is great just get a new trailer for the 246. You really should just call the trailer mfg and let them advise you.
