Cobalt Promo Video

My buddy, Garrett sent me this old Cobalt promotional video. Looks to be from 1983 or so. Very cool to see them doing some of the exact same things in their build processes when you go on a tour today.

Yeah that was fun to watch. What a era of advertising right.
I absolutely love the tech bouncing the screw that wont grab or go through. That’s realistic stuff!

I noticed that too. It’s just cool to see them still using a lot of the same techniques in the brand new boats as they were over 35 years ago.

Maybe that was just him trying to get the screw to go through the aluminum backing plate

I recall when I was a teen-ager boating in the Ozarks, circa 1978. Dad provided us with a crappy old Arrow Glass that barely got on plane, threw a huge wake, was grossly under powered, and was horribly unreliable (OMC stern drive, Oldsmobile V8 engine). It was a lousy boat, but we loved it none the less.
To my amazement, there was this gorgeous boat that was stored somewhere around the bend in the next cove. It would seemingly come out of nowhere each day and blow passed our lumbering, under powered, Arrow Glass. There was just something impressive about it as it moved through the water, the angle of the bow, the water it threw to the side, how it leaned into turns, and the colorful stripe under the gunnels. I always noticed the name on the back of the boat, just below the gunnels: COBALT. I remember thinking to myself: what an odd name for a boat. I knew nothing of Cobalt, or any other brand really. All I knew is we had an Arrow Glass, and a Glasstron before that, and my Grandfather had a Larsen. It was not until decades later when I earned enough to start boat shopping that I saw another COBALT.
Anyway, the scenery in the video looks a lot like the lake in which I saw the Cobalt, and the boats in the video were very similar to the boat that used to catch my attention.
