I spent last weekend at Horseshoe Bay on Lake LBJ., A nice lake in the Austin, Tx area.
While walking through the marina admiring all the Cobalt boats a beautifully restored old boat caught my eye. I went to take a closer look and on the dashboard was a tag indicating the boat had been built by Glastonbury for then President Johnson. When I returned home I did some research and learned it was presented to President Johnson in 1965. That’s the same year the State of Texas changed the name of the lake from Granite Shoals Lake to Lake LBJ. The boat was bought on EBAY from a man in Houston, and restored as close as possible to original, complete with jump seats for two Secret Service Agents.
The boat is a 1965 Glaston V 204 Gulfstream.

Yes, very cool. I’d love to own a boat with some history like that.

I thought this was very cool so I talked to a couple of old Texans from that area. This tale can’t be confirmed and I would never divulge the source... but the tale is.
When Pres. Johnson would decide to go to the lake the Secret Service would rent a jet boat to trail the President from Lake Travis and tow it to Lake LBJ. On more than one occasion the President would be at his ranch. He would be drinking and decide, on very short notice, to go boating. The Secret Service wouldn’t have time to get their support boat, so they ended up buying a very fast jet boat. One of Johnson’s favorite things was to try and out run the SS.
On the SS boat they had a captain, a specially trained marksman, an ex Navy Seal rescue diver and a doctor. Kennedy had just been killed, in Texas, a few years prior so the SS was taking every precaution.
On another note the boat is named,” Lady Bird.”

So cool. I love hearing that kind of thing and hearing those stories.

The picture of LBJ driving is great. Was it on display there?
