Thinking of adding one of the drain plug LED lights. Has anyone added to an R-series? Wondering if most of the wiring from the dash is already back there, and just need to find the right cables? The button clearly is in the dash and operates.

At one point I was debating this but never got around to it.

I am still on the fence about these things. While we love to boat at night. I cannot tell you a time we have ever swam at night. Which would be the reasoning for these. I have the swim platform lights so not sure if I would do the drain plug or underwater lights.

We swim at night sometimes. Of course wouldnt want to have them on while underway. We are headed to the boat this evening. If I can bear the heat, will have a look for the wires.

I didn’t order the underwater lights because we never EVER boat at night. And of course, we sometimes boat at night now. I added a boat plug light, and of course we haven’t been out at night. The wiring pig tail is in the motor box and it’s labeled. Just build a plug from your light and tie it in. Mine works perfect....in the garage, and we still don’t know what it looks like at night.

Same light I installed. Those don’t want to be operated unless under water as they are super bright and heat up.

What color did you order?
they have red ones green ones blue ones but they also have an RGB, I'm just curious why you would order a red only to get the RGB for the same price?
Seems like if you want to change the color in the future you are cheap the way to go?
Or is the red only a brighter red than the RGB?

I ordered the Blue. I also expected it might be a bit cheaper than RGB. I got blue because if you want RGB, you need a controller and a remote to control. I just didnt want to mess with all that, but not too much more $ if you do.

I will take pictures when I install mine and try to put together a simple "HowTo".

Green, IMO, I don’t think that light will work safely on an R.. It will screw in ok, but the bottom of the light will be below your hull line and it will catch water coming, and could catch debris coming under the hull. I bought a similar unit, was very uncomfortable with the idea of opening up my bilge with a debris strike, and sinking in the middle of Lake Erie. So, I sent it back.

Did you end up installing it? Did you wire it to the helm?

I don’t think the offset will clear either.
There is ZERO clearance below the bilge drain opening, and the hull bottom. Then, there is a slight down angle on the transom so everything mounted must be above the angle of the bilge opening. My light fits sideways to clear the outdrive.
My plug has an Allen screw for a drain, which I was concerned over, but as long as the bilge is clear of junk, it drains perfectly. Worse comes to worse, it’s easy to remove without tangling any wires and open the drain fully.


The factory wiring end is located to starboard side of the battery charger option is mounted in the motor box. It’s labeled from the factory and very easy to find. Simply find or build the correct plug for the end of the light wire and plug it in. I had the Marina build me the correct plug. The helm button is pre-wired, so it’s a very simple electrical hook up

ok I think you guys have me sold on getting one of these. However with me not having a trailer I am just going to have to wait until the next time I have it in for service as I can see this being a little to difficult to do floating on my stack mat while its on the lift lol. So I will have to wait until next spring. Then just ask them to plug it in and toss the wiring in the bilge area so I can get it connected.

The easy part is installing the light. It takes the same amount of time as installing the drain plug. Feed in the cable, screw the light in, and you are done. The part that takes time is the wiring, and that can be done in the motorbox, and quite easily if you have the right plug.
