Window Tint..on the windshield?

Post by NautiGirl »

Just got the BMW tinted, looks 100% better. Nothing crazy 35% Llumar CTX all around. When I was leaving the guy that did the tint tried to up-sell me on getting the windshield done. Apparently llumar makes a 80% ceramic tint designed to block UV rays and help keep the interior cool without changing the optics of the windsheild so no glare or anything. Here is a link: https://northamerica.llumar.com/automot ... int-series

Have any of you guys tried this? Most likley wont do it on the BMW but maybe on the truck since it sits in the marina all summer?

Interesting read. I always wonder about side distortion as layering tends to create that . As do aftermarket windshields.
Makes total sense as it will save a lot of cracked dashboards.
Are you going to try it?

I’ve done it to one of my cars in the past and just did 35% to my R5. I loved it on the car, will let you know on the boat after this weekend.

Check state laws, it’s illegal here in Illinois.

Distortion in the corners is my primary concern. The front glass that got put in the BMW after the bird incident distorted like crazy in the corners and it annoyed the crap out of me.

The truck windshield is pretty flat, may give it a try. Katie told me I was crazy, to save the money, and that we would just get one of those giant cardboard front window sunshades with the California raisins on it from the 80's. She isn't fun. https://www.ebay.com/p/Vintage-1980s-Ca ... 1603429837

I had all the windows on my truck wrapped with ceramic. Made a huge difference on the heat buildup. I was worried about the distortion on the windshield but was not a problem.

I've got 50% on the windshield of my truck and my wife's X3. I've had it on our last seven vehicles and highly recommend it if you like the look. I also just had 45% ceramic tint put on my CS22. Looks good and not too dark.
