New member at Lake of the Ozarks

I just purchased my first Cobalt. I just recently retired as a Fire Captain from the Maryland heights Fire District in St. Louis County after 43 years. We moved to the LOTO in 2017 to enjoy retired life. We live at the 19mm and I soon realized my 21' Ranger Fish & Ski wasn't a great boat on the weekends at the 19mm. So 6 months ago I started looking for a good used Cobalt in good shape. I finally found a great boat in Austin, Texas at Boat Town. The boat is a 2004 Cobalt 262 with a Volvo 8.1 dual prop motor with 287 hours on it. This week I flew down to Texas to look at the boat. To check it out and take it for a test ride and it looked and performed excellent. So around the first week of April they will be delivering the boat so I can have some fun this summer

Hey firecapt262, welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

And yeeeeehawwww, another 260 series owner. :P Do you have a rig that is able to pull her?

Curious if you have the aft center walk-thru filler cushions? :?: They are unicorns. Make sure you ask the dealer about them. I see by the snaps on the middle walk-thru that it originally came with them. It is great to be able to close up the "horseshoe" and pack in the guests. That boat will hold quite a few. I've done up to 14 (many of them kids of course).

You also have the table option so make sure that piece is included (stored in front of the helm).

It looks like an aftermarket remote on the transom. How's the sound system? Pics? You're gonna love the extra extended swim platform too.

Again, welcome aboard mate and congrats on retirement! ....and thank you for being a first responder all these years. 8-)

Thanks for the welcome! Yes it has all the filler cushions for the bow and cockpit, a table, the stereo system is new with Bluetooth, the bimini is a newer model with thicker tubes that what came on the boat OEM. It also has a full mooring cover that covers all the swim platforms. No need to pull her it will sit at my dock on a lift ready for fun.

Awesome Fc262.

That boat is just about bullet proof. One of the finest to come out of the Neodesha KS (five bucks if you can pronounce it correctly  ) factory. Amazing storage capabilities, hole-shot, speed, ride, handling, and of course that sexy look. 8-)

There are a few quirks. :?

-Don't lift the engine hatch with the ski pylon/pole inserted.
-You'll forget to raise the swim platform ladder from time to time and you'll see it bouncing back there while underway.
-The sun-pad cushions can start to separate at the seams so don't use any harsh abrasives on them. There is no replacement on the market for them.
-The telescoping stern light is a weak point if you have that option. Be careful with it and keep it lubricated.

Welcome from St. Louis! Great looking 262! I use to have a 262 as well and you are going to love it. By far the best boat I have owned to date. I am a Table Rocker myself but have spent plenty of time on LOTO.

Welcome from another LOTO boater from the 21mm. Great looking boat and thanks for you service! I have a lot of friends/relatives that work for fire and police departments all over the St. Louis area. Hopefully we can meet up this summer. My brother in-law worked for Des Peres for over 15 years and he is also at the 21mm at LOTO.

Welcome from Illinois! Probably my favorite interior of any boat I've seen, and you have a pristine example, well done!

Thanks for the quirks info. The sun pads are in great shape with no cracks or separations, I believe the stern light is the pole you insert into the base.

Great to hear. And they must have replaced your telescoping anchor light with a fixed one. It's a known weak point on the 262. You'll have no problems with the fixed one.

You guys are almost on top of each other's. You should give each other a few feet though instead of MM.
Anyways welcome. Sweet ride.

Welcome FireCapt. Boat Town is my local dealership. They've always done right by me. Love the boat.
