The past owner of our 72 bow rider replaced the fuel tank from aluminum with a plastic one.
Only problem with this is they threw a cheep junk standard plywood sheet to cover it.
As could be expected, it just got soft and week.
The rest of the entire floor is rock solid. I would like to know if anyone may have a suggestion to replace the section with something that I know
will at least match marine board of something better.

Dale, the one surprising thing I discovered during the restoration of my 1985 CM23 is Cobalt's apparent use of non-marine plywood in the early boats. I've had to rebuild a number of panels and cabinets that were wet and delaminated.

If it were me I would use a sheet of whatever thickness you need, marine plywood. As a substitute you want a plywood sheet with as many layers as possible and that used a waterproof glue between the layers. The down side of this is you will probably need to buy a full sheet and I paid $90 for 4'x8'x3/4" sheet. It is really good for other projects though around the house and shop as it is very flat and dense. You usually can't get this at your local big box home centers. You may have to look for a plywood dealer in your area.

Thanks Shawn. The cobalt dealer in north Idaho gave me a couple of suggestions but seemed a slight uncertain about the best material to us and they also build wood boats from scratch. Go figure. The best quote I can get for some good marine board is around $150. That's not such a big deal but it also means trying to find something close to the original carpet as well. Am thinking of possibly going with a more modern look but haven't decided to pull that trigger yet.
