AJ and others,
You guys have been an inspiration. Looking at my own pictures of myself are frightening.

I started 6 weeks ago, and have gone from 262 to 244, where I’ve been stuck for a couple weeks now. My gym attendance has been down because of vacation, which makes eating the right foods less available and more challenging, and my trainer also being a teacher. That will change after Memorial Day.
In fairness, I’m not doing full Keto. For me, I just don’t want to introduce large amounts of fat into my bloodstream. I try to stick with leaner protein. My dad died from heart disease, and my numbers are very good and I don’t want to challenge fate.
What I’m doing is taking the basics of what you guys are doing. I’ve cut out all unnecessary carbs, sugars and root veggies the best I can. Zero potatoes now. Lots of hidden sugars and simples to be aware of in all foods. I still like my strawberries and raspberries as a sweet, but my go-to breakfast has always been a cleaner cereal like Kashi, but it is all carbs and I’m starving by 10 am.. I try to eat my first meal late morning, which is egg whites mixed with some leaned out bacon or sausage mixed in the eggs. I’m usually good until dinner time. This past week has been very difficult. I could eat a bear, but I’m hanging tough.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try what I do then. I do what is called intermittent fasting. I fast every night from 8pm until noon the next day. Then I’ll eat about an 1100 calorie lunch. Usually 2 chicken breasts or a sirloin, a baked sweet potato and a veggie. Then I’ll eat a snack in the afternoon. Either a Greek yogurt or a piece of fruit. Then I have a lighter dinner. Usually about 6-700 calories. So I maintain about a 2,000 calorie a day intake. I then have one “cheat” meal a week which is usually Saturday’s where I will go have a burger, pasta, pizza, or Mexican food.
Then I hit the gym 4 days a week. 3 days of weight lifting and 1 day of cardio. I’ve been doing this since September and I’ve gone from 218 down to 185. I still have a little fat on me but I’m down to those last few that are hard to lose. But all my numbers in the weight room are the highest they have ever been. So I’ve also put on a lot of muscle while burning fat.
Not every diet works for everyone but this has worked the best for me. But in the end all the different diets have the same goal. For you to consume less calories than you burn in a day.

Awesome job AJ - I've followed your progress on The FB as well. I'm sure it's such a relief not carrying extra weight around.

I think you've got it. Push through that wall! Think about how good it'll feel to slip on that Bikini that's been tucked away in your closet!
Keep going. I think the gym is the important part. Get there 4 times a week. el-bees will come off. CC is behind you!

I’m a long way away from that guys.

..like never..
You are right Liquid, the gym is the way to push through. I’m in a 12 hour day work season at the store for the next couple weeks, and then I’m free—er. I plan to bump it up to 4 times a week.

Come hang out with me a few days Tusc. If you're looking for some intense exercise I'll put you on the end of a chainsaw for a few hours a day. I've worn out several chains and now a bar harvesting logs, cutting branches and trees and clearing for the pad for our venue. I keep telling myself folks like Liquid are laying to go to the gym for a workout like this and here I am getting it for free..

I would love to do that just to have the laughs and fun that you KNOW we would have. And maybe, just maybe get some work done.

.
IMO, nothing burns weight like sustained cardio.
It's tough, it sucks and its the fountain of youth. I need more of it, but I freakin hate it. That's why I pay a babysitter...I mean trainer...
The current problem for me is that I've been a physical worker my entire life from the agricultural (plant) side of the business. I'm third generation of a commercial greenhouse grower before all of the physical work saving, modern machine technology was produced. We did it with our backs..
I've probably shoveled a train load of soil, and now my joints are totally worn out. After two shoulder surgeries and two torn meniscuses in my knees, my issues are pain and arthritis. But, I'm actually not as bad as it sounds. Shoulders are repaired and 100%, and my knees are just a little unstable and pain is now an issue, but the meniscuses require no trimming surgery . Weight is the enemy now.
All that crap said, I need to watch everything I eat from now on. Unnecessary carbs and sugar has to go forever.
For me, I'm Tony Montana with a coke issue. I have great food all around me.

Its a point of dropping the hammer on myself.
Gym rats and hard workers...
Take care of your joints like you would take care of a single and permanent set of tires on your car. Suddenly and without warning, they blow out from excess wear, and there is no spare.
Doing burn outs will leave you without tread when you need it the most. Be smart with the gas pedal. How many of us know prior gym rats in their early 50's who are a walking mess right now from injury and worn out joints, and look like they have one foot in the box.

T, I wish you luck. I gained about 12 lbs. this winter in Alabama with all the good places to eat and now trying to lose it. I can’t imagine how hard that would be with the business you’re in, surrounded by all that food. You’re to be commended for just trying. By the end of summer we’ll be slim and tanned. Oh, forgot, we can’t get in the sun anymore. Good luck on your quest.

You're absolutely right about the tires. My left knee is pretty shot. No MCL to speak of. 1.5 Miles on a treadmill and it's barking at me. The core stuff i've been doing has really helped my other issue - my back and shoulder. Getting stronger has me feeling less pain.
Keep in mind I'm at a desk a lot of the day so back hurts constantly. Couple that with being 41 and the race to build sustainable muscle mass before 50.
I'm being very careful though. I understand my limits. I'm not 20. You're absolutely right you only get one set of tires.

Thanks Dub.
Although I basically work in Earthly adult heaven, there is no excuse for me to indulge

. There is every healthier option available, and someone to make it for me if I ask.. but my GD sweet tooth is a daily battle that’s unfair. So far, I’ve been strong, and it’s tough.

We bake the best chocolate chip/Reese’s PB Cup/oatmeal raisin cookies.. there are deli containers of extra chips and Reese’s for employee consumption sitting on the back kitchen table every day. And trust me, baking chocolate is slightly different than plain retail chocolate. The Reese’s cups for baking are unreal good, like super moist good.

I try to not go into the deli in the mornings..it’s that bad..
I had to tell one of our homemade bread companies to stop bringing in their leftover homemade donuts... they were killing everyone.

Considering the crazy world we live in..Good problems to have.

Ok T, if I’m going to lose weight, I can’t talk to you! Instead of eating less, I want to visit your store! Lol. Seriously, you’re right about good problems to have. Everything’s relative, but gee. Donuts and Reese cups! Good luck

My knees are shot also but I've found riding the bike doesn't hurt them like walking, running, or the treadmill. You can see a lot of country on a bike as long as the roads are safe. Up until 2 years ago I rode the annual BP MS 150. It's a 180 miles. 100 on day one and 80 on day two. I did it six years in a row until I turned 60. Would still be participating, but I don't have the time to train right now. The older I get the more time it takes.
