yea....it has that fiberglass smell.nolaboater99 wrote: Mon Mar 12, 2018 12:36 pm I really don't know but if I had to take a guess I would say it was resin. As good as Cobalt is and was back then I doubt they would stop production to switch to epoxy when everything else they were doing was resin. Just an educated gues on my part. Question: When you sand it....does it smell like resin/fiberglass?

Trying to find marine grade plywood around here is pretty hard unless you want to wait till next week when "our order comes in" or get a better price by buying a 5 sheet min. order...Home Depot...but when you live in rural Utah.....so I went with ACX I'll just coat it real good with resin. I looked at what I had cut out and it had voids in it so evidently Cobalt didn't use marine ply in the floor either. Looking at resin there must be 50 different ones and they are all "the only way to go"

Re: New Member & My CM23
Now that we're back from our Bahamas trip I'm starting to get back to working on the boat again. The shop that is making my new upholstery is completing pieces and I now have to start putting the skins back on the frames. My work table has been taken up by my swim platform for the past few weeks so I needed to get it finished. I did that today. I still have to finish polishing the stainless angle frame that goes around the bottom edge and get in on but here are a couple of pics of the finished platform....
As I have stated in the past, the boat was living in the water when I got her and for a few years she had been somewhat neglected. The teak boards for the platform were in pretty poor shape. They were grey and badly weathered. I had to run them through a surface planer and I took off about 1/16" and got each board to the same thickness. A couple of them had chunks missing so I had to do some repairs as well. After a lot of sanding and some re-engineering to make the platform fit the new brackets, I finished it all with 6 coats of Minwax Spar Urethane Satin. I will be making a snap-on cover of Sunbrella in a week or so to protect it from the elements. I won't put the platform on the boat until everything is back in. I have temporary pine planks there now that I use getting in and out.

That teak do look nice. The minwax really makes the grain show. Would you know by chance where I could find the center section for my swim deck? Just the frame would work or good pictures of one and I could go from there. I'm not getting much done with my project right now because I'm knee deep in a sprinkler project that I've been putting off....It's more fun to work on the boat....but beings our irrigation water will be turned on next week I'd better put that fire out first.

He is the parts guy for Village Marine at Lake of the Ozarks and helped me find some parts. My understanding is they are a big Cobalt dealer and they part out older Cobalts so there might be something he can help you with. Tell him you heard about him on the CobaltChat Forum.

Re: New Member & My CM23
I haven't posted a lot lately but I have been working on it. My day to be in the water was supposed to be today. Just too many delays and I'm just not ready. Memorial Day Weekend is the new proposed launch date.
Thursday I got the reupholstered side panels back from the upholsterer. I set them in place to have a look and I have to say I am very pleased with the new look. There is a large teak molding that attaches along the top of the panels. The long narrow opening gets a carpeted shelf and the larger opening will have a teak shelf in it with a new SST cup holder and an LED courtesy light. The old panels looked something like this....but not this bad The thin dark line is navy piping that matches the hull color. I designed these myself somewhat, borrowing from Cobalts interior designs from 1995-2005. The old tuck-n-roll looked too....80s and it's time to freshen things up. I'm also very happy with the logos I had embroidered. The upper bolster of the rear seat will have the same embroidery. I should start getting the new seat skins in the next few days.

That’s a really nice look. Cleaned it up and makes it look really modern. That’s really gonna make the teak pop.

Very cool. Someone had a fancy sewing machine. I hope they got auth for that. Lol
I also emailed your rsanders contact for a table mount. He got back very fast but no luck. Thanks for the lead though.
