Ok..it’s been a while and I finally found the time & desire to remove the existing throttle control.. it was a huge pain but easy at the same time. The pain came from the fact that as I was following the directions in the Quicksilver throttle guide for disassembly, almost every screw refused to come out either because it was rusted (in the case of the cover plate screws) and others I just couldn’t budge with anything I tried. I resorted to using a Dremel to cut the screw tops off and a few other metal bits in my way so that I could remove the throttle cable..

Here’s a pic of things before the Dremel action started.. for reference...

Anyway, this is what my old throttle box looks like as of a few minutes ago.. lol

I didn’t cut any wires even! Hooray!! Now to find the replacement and possibly some new throttle/shift cables. If I want to buy new cables, is it mostly a matter of getting the length of the existing ones and buying somewhere online? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Any thoughts on a brand new Teleflex/Seastar Solutions CH1752 control for a bit more than a used quicksilver 3000 on eBay? Thx

Thanks.. unfortunately that won't work on my boat as I've got the wall mounted style (whatever its called).. on the right wall of the boat instead of a center/pillar style like shown above.. looks nice though..

We can Make this work!! I have the design in my head already and believe me the throttle is pointed all the way down 😂😂👇
Actually I'm sticking to my merc 3000 throttle.

I guess my only concern with the Quicksilver 3000 (aka merc) is how do I tell whether that 'special' one on Ebay is worn out or not? I guess that's why I was leaning a bit towards something new as I gather all Quicksilvers are just a newer generation of what I just removed. Maybe my concern is unfounded..?

Yep your call. I'm a gambler and like oem stuff. Research and ask them questions. See if they have a return policy.

Is it safe to assume that any of the 8-pin Quicksilver's can't be used? Mine only has 4 pins.. I'm making that assumption.

Whatdya think about https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Old-Stock- ... SwMIVd7B1J one -- new old stock.. It appears to have the trim buttons but not the tilt but I could use one of the spare switches for the tilt or something.. thoughts??

Ok.. Ive been poking around a bit more.. I’m leaning towards a 8m0030551 (Mercury Quicksilver 4000 Gen2 pistol grip).. There are other models out there but I’m not sure what the exact differences are (e.g. 8M0011213) which does not have the chrome piece on the pistol grip. I’ve got the impression that the chrome version is slightly newer..?

Anyone see any issues with me using a 8m0030551 As a replacement for my existing Commander Classic? Obviously I’ll need a trim switch which this has but probably not the trailer lift switch which is ok as I’ve got tons of unused dash switches or other options there. Thoughts??

Thanks!

That looks much better. The trim and tilt switch is all in one on the throttle assembly. Shouldn't need a separate switch.
