I’m not a fan of the overall look inside and out... I’m sure the wave is going to be awesome. I saw a R6 in person down at table rock last September at the harbor, the whole design seems retro 1980’s to me, and don’t get me started on the console , someone on here said it looks like a 1980’s arcade game, I think that’s an apt observation. The R3,5,7’s are so sleek with clean lines, but the wave is the thing, looks pretty sweet, can’t wait to surf behind one!!!!

I noted on the R6 Surf video on the screen where you fill the ballast...there are also control for the trim tabs.

Does anybody know if these are an option or standard? If they are an option what's the use case to have them or not?

Trim tabs are an option. They are commonly used for 2 things. Leveling the boat side to side when you have more weight on one side compared to the other. 2nd is to create a better ride in rough water by lowering the bow angle.

I have them on my r7 and I would never own a boat again without them.

Trim tabs are an option. They are commonly used for 2 things. Leveling the boat side to side when you have more weight on one side compared to the other. 2nd is to create a better ride in rough water by lowering the bow angle.

BRdad i second that, I had them on my A25, but they aren’t an option on the R,3,5,7 surf. I miss having them, thats a huge plus for the R,4,6,8 surf

Makes sense...so even with the surf it's must have? Trimming is not enough?

Do you know of these tabs get used during surfing like the R3,5,7 or are these more for regular riding?

I couldn’t tell ya. The surf gate is what creates the wave, whether or not you can use the trim tabs during surfing to tweak or shape the wave I don’t know. I’ve watched all those videos and from those it seems it’s just the surf gate and the position of the out drive and ballast fill to adjust the wave.

My dealer advised against TT for my R6 Surf order. Said it wasn't necessary for an R6 S. It is a $1600 option on the order sheet.

certainly not necessary but once you have and use them you wont want to be without them. Considering the dinette table is $1200 option, $1600 for trim tabs is a no brainer.

Don't know with absolute certainty but I cannot imagine they are used while surfing.

I'm not sure why your dealer would advise against trim tabs. This is a dual purpose boat (bow rider/surf boat) so when it is being operated as a bow rider (cruising), I would think trim tabs would be useful.

Most dedicated surf boats use an oversize "tab" (along with a purpose build hull shape) to generate a surf wave. The Cobalt R3, 5, 7 Surf used a similar tab system, so you couldn't have trim tabs. Withe the R6/R8 surf, Cobalt is using Malibu's gate system so trim tabs are an option. I suspect they are locked out when in surf mode but available to level the boat when not surfing or help get up on plane quicker.

I will check again when I finalize order. But basically they said they don't put TTs on many orders at Tahoe...can't remember why, but I will ask.

My dealer said the same thing when I ordered my 2019 R3 so I left them off. I don't really miss them but on the R3, with a full tank of gas the boat rides with the bow up a fair bit and could be brought down with the tabs. Once the boat has less than 3/4 of a tank it rides more flat. With an uneven load, the typical list appears as well. It doesn't bother me enough to have them added, but if I was ordering a boat again, I'd include them.

Interested to see what the answer is. I will be using mine up in big bear which is also at a similar altitude to Tahoe.

That is odd. Tahoe is big enough to get pretty choppy.

I think trim tabs are defiantly one of those things you don’t know you need until you have them. I had them on my A25 and was very disappointed when we ordered our R7 surf to find out they weren’t an option. It’ just nice riding in a level boat, not having to ask people to change seats etc, but I’m a little OCD, maybe it just doesn’t bother some people that much. I will say it was nice when our kids were little and towing them on the knee board at 13-15 mph :0)
