If there is a surf version it may have a ballast that takes up part of the storage and a second access point would give access to the part that isn't taken up by the ballast. The R5 doesn't have access to storage locker in the surf but I bet the ballast doesn't run all the way to the front of that locker.BobRae99 wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 8:58 amMaybe there is one single storage locker with 3 access points? Just yesterday I was crawling into mine to retrieve a fender that got pushed forward when we put water skis back in the locker.StingraySteve wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2020 8:51 am Same thoughts except I like the one big hole compartment on my R7 because that’s where I store my boards
You are probably right and there will be an R series Surf version. Its a growing category that I doubt Cobalt would leave behind and it may be in part responsible to the change in the dead rise at the transom. Many dedicated surf boats have a flatter stern deadrise.Norris_Boating wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 9:14 amIf there is a surf version it may have a ballast that takes up part of the storage and a second access point would give access to the part that isn't taken up by the ballast. Thanks for that (and welcome). Do you have any others you can share? I like the look of the tower better than the one on the non surf boat we've seen pictures of.

Like Norris said Cobalt uses the lower end unit so maybe a little higher model would produce better reliability?AsLan7 wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 7:46 am.tgrace98 wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 7:21 am
Yes I very much dislike the rf remotes in the r series. I have that on the list of things I will replace once factory warranty has expired.
I do like the looks of the stereo on the dash. Is it me or did Cobalt switch to Infinity? That sure looks similar to a KAPPRV515 marine receiver (without camera function)
Curious...what don't you like about your current RF remotes NB & TG98?
.
I think the 10in garmins on the Current R30/35 and the A-series looks good. I agree with most that the 10in screens on the smaller boats looks a little tacky. I love my glass dash with the 7607's on the R7.
it looks like they carried over the wild interior options from the CS surf to the new R series surf. I can't say I like it. I saw the 2 tone interior in a CS23 surf they had at my dealer and I was not a fan at all. Looked too Malibu for me. Not saying Malibu makes a cheap or ugly boat, they are just different. Cobalt tends to be classy where Malibu tends to go for trendy and modern. Looks like they are bleeding that into the cobalt line.greenhut wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 9:17 am Style a personal choice, but... ewwwww. Too busy. Takes away from the quality behind the look - at least for me. Its like half Cobalt half Malibu. Yuck.
It would be nice, but even yachts I've seen in the millions of dollars have off-the-shelf chartplotters and displays from companies like Garmin or Raymarine. Garmin does make a 9" in their GPSMap plus series line of chartplotters though - it might have worked better to just design everything around that (or even around the seven inch ones that have been around forever) and skip the separate sizes.akorcovelos wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 8:24 amFor the cost of that boat they should have a custom display, not two off the shelf units mounted into the flat black panel. Honestly looks like something someone did to upgrade what should have been a more traditional gauge layout.jhnmdahl wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 8:21 am I feel like the 10" screens simply make the dash too big, and look bad with the huge black plastic panels visible when used with the apparently stock 7". Too bad they couldn't make the dash a bit smaller and pick a single size that's eight or nine inches.
What are you going to replace them with. It has crossed my mind but I haven't looked into it at all.tgrace98 wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 7:21 amYes I very much dislike the rf remotes in the r series. The extra design and glue down rather than snap down. Maybe they have already rolled this option out to other boats but I had to install after market because it wasn't an option in my 2019.
The Rockford fosgate radio remote on the console is definitely an upgrade, the ones on the current R's is one of the cheapest option from RF.
I haven't really looked at all either. with mine being a 19 I still have 3 more seasons of warranty before I have to deal with it. I will probably cross that bridge when the time comes.Norris_Boating wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 1:57 pmWhat are you going to replace them with.
