I know where I am and I currently own a beautiful 2018 R5 with 350 Volvo duo prop,$150.000. I’m on Lake George only 32 miles long and much more protected by surrounding mountains and Islands than Lake Champlain. I’m considering making the switch to a R7 just so that I don’t have to pick and choose my day. Only because you mention the words “sea worthiness” I think about my previous experiences with 22 to 24 ft Grady Whites, Tritons and Boston Whaler. I would never ever think to take my 25 ft R5 out 20 miles into the ocean or sound. I’m loving every second I’m on my Cobalt, every one! But, I also miss being able to say to the wife “ wanna go down to the Village and play a game of miniature golf” and just go instead of looking out the window and saying “I don’t know, looks a little choppie” Not sure I feel like getting beat up. Probably just me, probably the difference between standing up under a T top in the back of a boat leaning against a bolster and sitting down in the front of a boat behind a windshield. It was the words “sea worthy” Am I more comfortable sitting in the shade of the tower, swimming off the platform, pushing the button for the windlass. You Bet and wouldn’t trade it for anything. But sea worthiness?

Force — Please understand I didn’t mean “sea”worthiness literally. I just want a boat that can handle reasonable weather on Champlain. It’s interesting to me that Lake George routinely serves up chop that discourages you in the R5. I would have thought that would be a somewhat rare event, but then I don’t know how Lake George’s narrow valley affects the wind there.

Though I routinely drive through Lake George en route to points south, just yesterday I took route 9N around the lake for the first time. Pretty country.
