So much for breaking in future boats gently!!
But, I think I would put all stock in Alex and 1,300 rpm. I can't imagine water remaining in that tank at 50+ MPH prop speed.
If the boat show doesn't get the core together, then we need to pass and pick something that works for everyone..
Whitey has some ideas.

Right I’m guessing 1300rpms is what they do. If they ran the motor at WOT for 30 minutes then why would they have a break in period for the owner.

I'll start another thread to kick around some ideas and suggestions so we can keep this one to the 2018 tour.
But yes, we do have some ideas!
Back to the tour... I would agree running a boat at WOT doesn't make sense in that little tank. Think of what your wake looks like at 50 mph. There was two tanks end to end though, so more than likely one is a catch tank, and the water circulates through. Nauti it was definitely deeper than 3 or 4 feet, but it's so clear it looks like 3 feet. I'm betting it's more like 6 to 8, but it'll be worth asking. I remember on a cruise once I asked the tender ship Captain about going over big rocks on the bottom, and how deep the draft was, and does he ever worry about hitting one at low tide. . Hes like "Those rocks are about 60' down. No worries."
I swear it looked 10 or 15 feet deep!
And I do remember Rick saying they run with everything on during the test to check all the components. Maybe it was all in our minds that took it to wot because... well, because that's what we wanted to hear!
I'm going to contact Rick and see if I can get him to join. That would be pretty cool, and I think he'd do it.

Ok, so i looked at a old brochure and it says - "testing occurs at full power." I'm guessing this is where the confusion is coming from. Is "full power" WOT, or all systems powered ? I believe Alex said wot would empty the tank rather quick.

Well the saying “ Better to break on the first outing” while the tools are out and your hands are still dirty “ may not be the correct break in for a non Race Motor thats competing the next day...lol
It would require another thread to discuss heat cycles and ring seating, so let’s just envision the tech sitting in the tank .
Throttles to the dash... banging off the rev limiter for 30 minutes. Uhhh no.
More like idling 1200 and varying rpms with some pushes up then back to insure ring seal with moderate pressure...no vibrations, leaks, ecm malfunctions etc. that’s my guess. 30 minutes is a loooooong time.
Could you imagine the tech testing stereos?? Now there’s another Thread.lol

FWIW, I sent an email to Derek, our tour guide, thanking him for rolling out the red carpet for us and invited him to be on the forum. I also asked about the tank testing and he responded this morning via email.....

It was my pleasure to show all of you around. We give several tours a year and the groups are my favorite. Especially groups of people who are here to see truly how our product is made and the hands that make them. Here at Cobalt we strive to give the upmost customer service and boating experience for our customers both new and old. I can confidently speak for all of us that it was a great time and your group was a very fun group.
I would love to join the cobaltchat.com group, but I would have to refrain due to my position with the company. I will drop in and view some topics every once in a while though to make sure y’all are “toeing the line”. At Cobalt we test tank boats 30’ and under with single engines. They are ran under forward power for 30 minutes, typically they will initially go to full power and then back off a bit.
