Well this morning I got the call I was dreading. After swapping the lifters and quieting down the motor, the mechanic was able to hear a knock lower in the motor. He cut open the filter and found metal shavings which obviously confirms either a bent rod or a bad bearing on the crank....either way its a full rebuild or ordering a reman'd block.

...ugh

Just got word from the dealer that the rebuild is done and they’ll be dropping it in here soon. There’s a foot of snow on the ground, but it will be spring soon….right?

Here in the Brainerd Lakes area of MN we hope for the ice to be out by mid April so we can get the boats in the water before May1st. 90 more days!

Motor is back in its home! It should be fully buttoned up in the next few days. Dealer is going to throw some muffs on it and put a couple hours on it to start the break-in process. Then it will be test drive time once the ice melts. Is it April yet?

Just spoke with the dealer. Initial break-in on the motor is done! I went ahead and had them rebuild the bunks on the trailer to make my life easier. I'll take delivery in a couple weeks, indoor storage is lined up at my local marina so it will have a short 1/4mi trip to the water from here on out. April is almost here!

Glad to hear it. I'm hoping to make a trip up there to remove the sun pad on our 252 in the next couple of weeks.

Today was a good day. Finally got our 220 back with a freshly rebuilt block. We put an hour on it, cruising around coralville lake. Keeping the RPMs low and varying often, I kept it under 30mph the entire time. Won’t be doing any wot runs until there’s at least 10 hours on it. The rebuild cost me around $6,000 total. It would’ve been much worse had the dealer not taken care of me. Putting this bad luck behind me and look forward to a happy summer on the lake.

Snowman8 wrote: Sat Aug 21, 2021 8:51 pm That’s too bad! Did you buy it from a dealer of private party? How many hours are on the motor?
Dealer brokered it. 630 hours
I guess I should have figured it out when you said the deal gave you their commission back.. That’s good of them to do that but I guess they will make the money back form you with the labor of installing the new engine. 630 hours isn’t very many for having an engine fail. Was the selling dealer the servicing dealer for the boat, I just wonder if they have any service records? They obviously kept the boat looking nice and clean.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm like snowman, I always like to know why things happen. My wife has tought me to learn to file things under "some times Sh!# just happens". Though it is currious that it happened so soon after your purchase. In the end you'll still have a great boat with a new or re-built engine!

I think its money spent for a boat in this condition. A lot of piece of mind to be had with a fresh engine too
