Being a guy who absolutely drools over original paint on an older car, it somewhat pained me to hand over the stewardship to my friend's family. The finish on that trailer totally blew me away on how well preserved it was. Probably can't use such Zinc and Cadmium laden paint these days. The V4 motor was cosmetically excellent, but had a bad water pump on one bank and was down on compression in one cylinder. My friend had a good Merc outboard on his Larsons with the rotted transom as well as hydraulic steering and it was transferred over to the new boat.
Sadly his older brother gave away the old engine. I'd have kept it just to look at.
This boat will go down fast in terms of cosmetics if exposed to UV at this point. It is a little hazed after one year's use. The old one was cosmetically trashed, but that was part of it's charm. It is a well known boat on Trout lake that the local Marina guy would just shake his head at for the last 30 years. The name of the old one was Relic and the new one is Relic II.

Well the deal did not go down as planned but is still happening. The owner and I were to meet yesterday but we got our signals crossed, as he was in Texas while I was up waiting for him (2.5 hours North of where I live). Once we realized we had our day mixed up I figured it was a good opportunity to check the boat out a bit and had a great review of it's condition and maintenence history by the Manager of the marina.
It has about 300 hours on it, runs dead quiet in terms of engine noise. It had a rebuilt drive unit installed at great expense two years ago because the old one was was destroyed with a bent shaft. It also had a major service done last year with all the bellows being changed (That was also very expensive).
The upper cosmetics are very nice on the deck. The Red strip at the base is quite faded (Pink now) and the sides are a little chalky in the gelcoat. Not sure if that just buffs out. The Cobalt insignia on the side is missing a couple of letters. But, I think it is going to be a great and safe boat. Can't wait to drive it for an extended 35 MPH cruise..
Only had my camera phone, so I thought I'd take the shot at an angle that brings out the shark character of the design

These boats wet sand and buff very easy and nice. You can buy the letters. There are some on ebay. Good luck.

Yep..2 good reads here! NiCad I meant "diggin" the trailer of course! I wonder if with some rub downs with the new spf stuff in it will fight off uv Discoloration? Good luck on getting the other deal done!

I have the keys to the boats, the title is looking slightly more complex, but we will work through this. Bureaucracy is something I dread.

Just caught up as well, Nicad. Great read.

Excited to see pics of your MasterCraft barefoot 200 too!
Hopefully she makes the journey unscathed.

I was going to Florida to purchase a very clean looking BF200 and planned to tow it back with a Uhaul van. A lower priced one just popped up locally, so I am hopeful a deal will be worked out. It is a real period piece.

Sorry I'm kind of lost here. Why are you looking for a ski boat? And from here in the states? Sorry I'm just confused and it doesn't take much.

We need a second boat to extend the season on the island. Taking the Cobalt out of the water in about a month. The outboard can stay out till the lake freezes up. I enjoy water skiing and the Cobalt is the most miserable boat I have ever skied behind.
We have a 90 HP Edgewater , but am very disappointed with the load it will carry. It won't plane with 4 adults on board.
So, the Barefoot 200 is my answer. Made between 92 and 95. Stock power was the Yamaha V6 200 HP carbed two stroke. I was close to pulling the trigger on a clean one near Jacksonville, Florida. I have since found a less expensive one In Montreal.

So how many boats in your fleet now, Nicad? :D

Ok thanks. That helps.I'm like what am I missing. So you want a outboard over a inboard just for the sake of skiing longer then. It's good to see a skier. Not many left. I loved it but haven't done it in a long long time. I'm afraid if I do it my back won't like me much. And I'm to stubborn to start with two skis.lol

If the deal goes through, four that burn gas, three of which also burn oil, and one that sails. Next year I hope to cull one or two of them. Haven't had time to use the sailboat, nor complete engine refurb on the 18 HP fastwin. At this point I am racing the short Canadian fall to get the deck replaced before winter and a shed built to store firewood.. Hope to make it out to the island once over the winter.... well after freeze up and burn lots of wood.
