I ended up having to go with the OEM cover from Westland. The guy who was going to do the custom cover forgot to tell me how backed up he was. When i called to place the order, he said it would be ready until mid June! The boat came with a cover, but not one I trust to bring her home with, so I bite the bullet and bought the OEM. The next one will be custom!

Did you straighten out the questions raised about the marine survey findings vs the Indy shop telling you nothing was wrong? A $10K estimate is nothing to ignore. Especially if you are really going out on Erie.

Sorry for the delay in responding! The Ford did great pulling my 262. We were at about 7500 lbs. The truck had plenty of power (5.4L) to pull the boat and the suspension and brakes handled everything just fine. My only concern was that the factory Reese hitch is rated for 500 lbs without a load distribution hitch and 1000 lbs with a load distribution hitch. My trailer tongue weight is around 750 lbs, so I overloaded the hitch a bit, but everything worked out just fine. I pulled the boat at 65 mph and except for hills, the transmission rarely came out of overdrive. I first tried towing with OD shut off, but having OD on did matter, the transmission stayed in the same gear most of the time.

At this moment, it's two conflicting evaluations. Personally, I trust the evaluation given to me by Schumaker. They have a long standing reputation in the marine industry. I have not sea trialed the boat since I boat her and Schumaker went over it. She is about 6 hours away from me in Indy, so I can stop in to see her run on muffs. I am heading down to Indy at the end of April to see her run on muffs, if there are any issues, we will sea trial her in Indy. If no issues, I will drag her home to Erie for fun in the sun!

Wow! I hate it when folks get sold a pile that they pay their hard earned money for. Usually by not doing their research and having a survey done. You did, but it sounds like the surveyor was either really "WORKING" for you or didn't know what he was doing. I can't say this is in any way your fault samuri33 but.......karma? I like your boat. She is a beauty.

Thanks LOTO, with the help of A7, BBP, and a few others, this forum helped me make an informed buying decision. The one I bought was the third or fourth 262 I looked at. I knew I wasn't going to buy without a survey. The story isn't finished until I sea trial, but either way, I was able to negotiate the price to cover my rear end!

Alright Cobalt Owners, I need your help! The latching hardware that holds or releases the ladder on my extended swim platform is missing. The handle is there, but what the handle attaches to and holds the ladder is missing. This cannot be bought from Cobalt any longer. The guys at Schumaker where my boat is tell me they can fabricate the pieces missing, if I can get them pictures from someone who has this ladder on the extended swim platform. If anyone can snap some photo's of this hardware with maybe a tape measure to show scale, that would help me out greatly!! Thanks A7 for the pics below!

If Shumaker can fab it let then turn them loose. It's only a bent little rod with a crosspiece on top and a flatbed hole in the middle to bolt it on. I'll try to get a picture of mine later.

You have everyone s curiosity up though. What did they see on the survey that Shumaker said was fine? Especially to the tune of $10,000? A new motor doesn't cost that much?

A new 8.1 installed did cost that much. Heck a used one almost costs that much. We looked. Lol
The tech and surveyor checked compression and is was very low.
Hench why they said it needed a engine. What was found I won't say or how they found it wasn't bad I won't say on the internet. In person sure. S33 up to you.

Honestly, even after I heard it, it still doesn’t completely add up.
