CC has absolutely nothing to do with towing. LolTheScot wrote: Fri Oct 19, 2018 8:01 pm
Matt: I’m confused by “Add CC ( captains Call exhaust)and you’ll have a Cobalt that’s towable.” I thought I knew (roughly) what CC was but don’t see how that connects to being towable. Explain, please?
It’s the only option missing. I meant to put a comma or start a new sentence.... but my text thumb was lazy. Lol
The 262 is a great value, but I feel after re-reading this thread we should stay the course with a nicely equipped 220. Should be exciting to see what comes along.

Matt's probably right here, Tscot....262 is a great value but it may be too much boat initially. The 220 is the perfect size boat for towing behind most any vehicle, and it's also a size that is quite manageable for ya' both on land and in the water.

Re: Considering Cobalt
No, no — a 262 it is. I already told my wife that I read on the Internet that I should get a 262, so it must be true, right?
Seriously, the 220 feels about right based on what you’ve posted in this thread, especially since at least one of you takes a 220 out on the Great Lakes. The arguments for Duoprop/B3 make sense.
I’m looking at a 220 on Monday (the 5.0 I mentioned in my first post) but feel under no pressure to buy something soon. We’ll see what happens.

Re: Considering Cobalt
As you continue with your search, you may want to look into boats listed in Quebec. Given the favourable exchange rate, there are deals to be had just north of VT. Some sites to look at include:
Trader.ca
Kijiji.ca
Boatdealer.ca
The market it smaller, but deals can be found. For example, a 2011 243 with the 8.1VP on a trailer - asking $50K USD. Solid blue hull, bimini, tonneau cover, camper top. Didn't list hours, but judging by condition I would expect it to have relatively low hours.
Closer to my home in Ontario is a 240 that is well sped'ed and looks to be in great condition. Asking price is around $22K.

Re: Considering Cobalt
Honestly Colin I think looks at more listings then I do. It's funny. We worked together some on his current boat. I actually just want to see pictures of his boat on the water being used in the Oct pic thread. Lol I'm sure his lake is frozen already. Re: Considering Cobalt
Duh — importing from Canada did not occur to me. Definitely worth considering, but U.S. customs regs spell out some hoops I’d have to jump through for both the boat and the trailer. It’s not like I don’t have time to figure this out though...it’s 35 degrees and falling with gray skies and ice pellets falling. I doubt it will improve much for several months.

Re: Considering Cobalt
You could look at the 190 also. I hear it's the best hull ever made

Re: Considering Cobalt
Okay, we looked at the 2006 220 today. The boat has not been prepped since being taken in on trade.
You wants pictures, you gots pictures... These are photos for the record; with the backgrounds, they are sure not art shots, especially not with covers partly in place. The color is Polo Green.
We took no action on the boat as yet, though my wife likes the looks of it. Your collective point about engine displacement is well taken.
Exterior:

Quite the scowl:

For not being prepped, the paint has a nice shine. This is a close-up shot intended to capture the Polo Green but instead showing a reflection of leaves and grass:

Now the interior:

This image captures the fact that the vinyl needs cleaning but is mostly intact and flexible. There are a few small cracks near the stern, but I did not take pictures of them.

Re: Considering Cobalt
No trailer?
It doesn't look too bad. Did it have the filler cushions? At least you finally got in one.
