Thinking of a new tow vehicle.

Anyone towing with an X7 M50i? We are considering that as our next tow vehicle.

I don't know if the tow rating is much different for the X7 but the X5 with tow package can only tow 6,200 lbs, if I remember correctly.

We don't tow long distances and our Mercedes GL550 pulled our 263 nicely using a 429hp/516ft-pound twin turbo V8. It stopped very well too with it's massive brakes. It has a 7,500 pound tow rating.

A 2021 X7 M50i should be similar using a 523hp/553ft-pound twin turbo V8 with even bigger brakes. I know if you ordered an X7 with the factory hitch option you can tow 7,507lbs/606lbs tongue, if the trailer has brakes.

If you ordered an X7 WITHOUT the factory hitch option and the hitch was installed at the dealer, your max towing capacity drops to 5,952lbs/606lbs tongue, if the trailer has brakes.

We owned two Durangos and an Aspen Hybrid with the similar 5.7 hemi engine. Really enjoyed those as well. Another great option.

Here's a piece of info shared with me from a friend who just went through the car buying process. Inventory is scarce to say the least and as a result, in many markets, dealers are adding stupd high premiums. (I know one example in CA where the dealers were marking up Toyota Camry's $8,999 for dealer adjustment). My freind found a loophole- Apparently, with some manufacturers if you special order/build a vehicle from the factory, they can't put the dealer markup on it for some reason. Yes, you have to wait 6-8 weeks, but I could do that for $9k. I have no idea if this is in every market or every manufacturer, but just something to think about.

How did your friend secure that loophole? We are looking at toyota tundra so would be curious. Our dealer is tacking on 9k as well and some dealers are 20k for a tundra

Hey thanks Jmd. My information came off of the BMW forum. I don't think the Stealth Hitch product was discussed. Nice option to have though. My main concern would be programming the ECU which Stealth Hitch does mention briefly in the instructions but does not go into detail.

That's always been my philosophy too bbp. Just surprised to see an aftermarket company stand behind that tow rating when there are many variables involved. We have always optioned our vehicles with the factory tow option.

That's where my concern is, it is 9200lbs which means 6900 for tow, our R6 with trailer I understand is around 7500 to my understanding.

When you say "feel the difference" what exactly?

There is more back-end 'wiggle' with our 1/2 ton vs. the 3/4 ton when towing. We went from a Ford with a front straight axle to a Chevy with independent front suspension, so the ride is much better when unloaded though.
