I have no say on engine size. But I just took delivery of a 2018 VP with the new technology and couldn't be happier. The quick drain is great! Took the boat out on a test drive with the dealer, pulled the boat out and drained the water right on the ramp. Definitely extends the boating season.
Obviously you have lots more to consider. But, that's my two cents on the engine.

I think we are discussing the age old question of “need to have vs. like to have”. I would like to have the 430, is it an absolute need? Based on my experience the 380 does the job. However, I don’t have nearly the experience of others in the group. I test drove the 430, I must say I was impressed, did it have a better hole shot? Noticeable difference. However, I am happy with the 380. Pushes my 242 @ close to 60 mph, that’s faster that I want to routinely drive on the crowded lake where I have my slip.

Hey All -
Sorry for the delay. Traveling this week (Dallas).
I'm honing in on the final details of the order but, as of now, the 430 and CC are staying. Ironically, Navy will be the top color with a white hull. This will be a trailer queen for the foreseeable future and figured a white hull may hide bunk marks, etc. Also choosing a Sandstone edge stripe. Hope that fits the bill for you future owners!

You have now made friends here for life tbully with that decision.
... And with the rare 430 hp motor option you’ve selected, that will be a very unique boat.
You will be fighting big block power and nauti-girl off like zombies when you decide to sell.
Congrats!

Again welcome. I'm thinking out loud for Nauti and myself now. I don't care what you get as long as it's black and has a 430 in it and captains call. We need more of you guys to build us boats the way we want them in ten years so don't worry what you want just ask us. Were not to choosy other than what I listed. Oh and good luck. We can't wait to see what you choose for us

oh skip the garbage can I hear it's not all it's talked up to be.lol
I think no matter which way you go it will be a sweet ride. Myself your paying this much you mine as well get what you want. 6.2 430 CC
Welcome. 430. Please go Forward Drive. Classic Cobalt colors or all white is also acceptable.

clearly...none of these guys ordering new boats this year need to worry about resale...as long as we get the "cobalt chat friends and family discount" in 10 years and not a markup for these in demand boats, i'll be happy!

No doubt. Honestly as fast as the good ones seem to sell. A friendly hey I might be getting a new boat heads up would be enough for me

I think you've configured a very beautiful boat, and one very similar to my configuration as well. My is scheduled to arrive in May sometime. My colors are identical to yours, probably very similar options as I'm also getting Captain's call; however, I'm just doing the VP 6.2 380HP. I'll primarily keep in slip on small lake in KY but already have vacation planned for July to UP of Michigan, Cedarville/Hessel area where my aunt has a lake cottage. Post your build sheet once you finalize your build.

I think I said this before, CM6, but that is a fantastic list of options you got on your R5. Nice job.

We've had the 380/430 discussion way too many times. Forget the price. It's just a bigger number so it has to be better.
Ok done with that. Congrats you guys on the new orders. Can't wait to see them in the water

It appears we'll have twins! My R7 will be built almost identical to this (including colors). The only difference is the 430. I didn't get the makassar dash because it was expensive and really couldn't figure out what it was. Can you elaborate?
Here's my build:
Bow and Cockpit Tonneau Cover (R7)
Rudder Indicator
Premium Sound w/Trans Spk (dealer is adding amp and speakers for the tower - they're Mastercraft as well and do this often - will save a few $$)
Satellite Radio System
Arch, Alum w/Bimini Top (white)
Oval Logo Recessed
Docking Lights - SS (R3-7/A)
Flagpole w/Flag
Portal Light (1-Hd Comp)
Sof-Trac Mat Step Plat (R)
Transom Shower
Transom Tilt Switch
Underwater Lighting
Air Compressor w/Holder
Bow Cushion Insert (R)
Table w/Cockpit,Sunpad Recept(R)
Carpet Sea Grass(R5/R7)
Umbrella w/Receiver
3 Color Custom Edge (R7)
Electric Porcelain Head
LED Accent Lt
Sunpad Filler Cushion w/Table (R3-7)
Sink Console Head
Captains Call Exhaust
Windlass, Tabs, Battery, Foot Tread, Auto Fire

makassar dash is kinda like a fancy interior upgrade on the dash interior. Oil rubbed woodgrain door on the glovebox, a premium dash trim, upgraded trim around the cup holders?

Both impressive builds. Very excited to see them.
