I don't know much about Formula boats, but Cobalt has a better "Build" website.
I didn't see any options for upgrades on sound systems on Formula, except arch with speakers.

Why are you hung up on the weights?

I understand that I am likely a old dinosaur but I want a nice runabout open bow boat like I have had for 30 years. Easily pulls a skier and is pleasant to drive around our lake. The R4 gained almost 800 # from the R3 while it is only 5”longer. My guess is almost all of that weight is for the R4 Surf that has no interest for me. More weight likely means for the same HP slower coming to place and harder to get a skier up. That’s my thought but none of us will likely be able to see how the R4 performance without purchasing one for the next couple of years. For me that’s a big leap.

Curious why you consider a lighter boat to be advantageous. In that size, I'd want something heavier to provide a better ride in the chop and overall feel more solid.

Yeah, Cobalt has always been heavy for their size and had a sharper hull angle than most boats on purpose - it's to provide the smooth, luxurious ride that they're known for. I think of their watersports boats more as "hybrids" than true watersports boats like Malibu or Nautique, which are lighter and faster but really like smooth water.

Formula makes nice boats but their "sweet spot" is bigger than Cobalt's, so they can get away with being a bit lighter. The closest thing to a Cobalt bowrider might be a Bryant?

Worse fuel consumption? Harder to trailer?

If more weight = better, we'd all have 1000s of lbs of ballast in our boats and, well, none of us do. Well, the surf people do, but they've obviously got issues.
