There is an R5 at my lake and first thing I noticed is that the Bimini was all rusted (no tower), I just assumed it was a salt water boat in its past life, I’ve never seen anything like it. Maybe the whole Bimini including attachments come from a vendor that uses SS “light” screws and attachments. I’m not an expert, but I deal with steel, galv, brass, SS, in different environments for work and can tell you there are varying ranges of SS quality for sure.

Pat St. Clair is the founder of Cobalt, the man who sold to Malibu…maybe he needed the money ? Or maybe he thought his dopey kids didn’t have the chops to keep the company above water
no pun intended. Cobalt/Malibu are resorting to overseas “CHINA/ASIA” suppliers because the American Made parts are too expensive. Buying a Cobalt today is not like buying one 15 years ago.
Ok boys and girls…how about this, My 2021 R7, the gel coat is cracking and spider webbing on a BRAND NEW BOAT !!! In the last few months dealer had to replace the Windlass System and Anchor, the Windshield has a 1/2” gap because it was installed incorrectly, the JL Main AMP had to be replaced…and now gel coat issues…the stainless screw is the least of my problems.
I’m unloading this TURD and buying a Searay 400 SLX.
I think Cobalt is just an overpriced hyped up name. Definitely regret the purchase, a Chaparral is a much better value boat and built just as well OR BETTER as a “Cobalt”.
PS no screws on the solar lights, they attach with gorilla tape.

Pat St. Clair is the founder of Cobalt, the man who sold to Malibu…maybe he needed the money ? Or maybe he thought his dopey kids didn’t have the chops to keep the company above water

But couldn't you have just added your gripes to the thread you already started?
Good luck with the Sea Ray. Curious decision to go from an R7 all the way to a 400 SLX. That's like trading in a BMW 7 series for a Winnebago.
BTW, surely whatever piece of technology you are posting from was manufactured in Asia. The notion that Asian infers bad quality really doesn't ring true these days. I'd obviously rather support American industries first, but those ships started sailing long ago now.

I appreciate your comment. Cobalt used to pride itself in being an “American Manufacturer” they used to make sure as many parts as possible were made in USA. Not the case anymore.
The 400SLX is still a bow rider at heart, but it has a great cabin bath/dining/storage/sleeping area. I don’t think the 400 SLX is like a Winnebago…it’s more like a day yacht.

Disappointing for you I’m sure.
But your original “Why Cobalt Sucks “ thread only involved 1 screw top.
So maybe I’m confused by the comments you retaliate with? Or maybe your use of emojis to dictate laughter at someone?
You may want to get your ducks, or you emojis in order before you post your thread of why your truly having issues, and the support or lack of from Cobalt and you’re local dealer.
Life happens, and everything can be fixed.
Good luck on your next venture. I’ll assume your going with “SeaRayornothing” when you post there.

His son
Paxson was at the helm when Malibu purchased Cobalt in 2017.

It's curious the only thing he noticed last week was a screw, but now has sudden and dramatic spider-webbing on a brand new boat that's not identifiable as a Cobalt from the photos, and would be uncharacteristic of a 20-30 year old Cobalt.
