They sure can be. Do your research and make sure they are insured/bonded. The lower priced bids are haulers normally just starting out without a lot of experience who are also trying to get back to the east coast where the shipments are more lucrative. I balanced this experience level with cost in addition to providing them with pictures of the practically brand new trailer they would be using to haul (as well as exact measurements and pictures of the boat, including the arch, so they would have no surprises). Be specific with pickup and drop off details too. Then the prices/bids kept coming down (since they know they won't have to deal with too many hauling issues).

I used this guy James +1-870-307-3357 to bring our boat from Chicago to Arizona. I forget the price, but it was fair. The price will depend on if he can get a load back the other way and he indicated that it is harder to get loads from the west coast to the east coast. He kept me informed the whole way and took lots of photos. He said he stops often and reads the bearing temps etc. in addition to having spare bearings and spare tires for most trailers. He had a Ram pickup that was about 6 months old and had just turned over 100k miles. He said he runs his Ram trucks about 500-600k then sells them to hotshot guys that deliver stuff for oil rigs etc.

Plus you can't order a new 2021 Cobalt and half the the 2022 are pre-ordered already. Used market is just going to go up and up.

Pricing is all over the place. I called 5 firms. In the end I paid about 2.0 a mile - but got free indoor storage for three months

Hey man, couple of week back i also transport boat from New york using Citizenshipper service.
They are good in most of the aspect what i feel !

And for price i would say the size of a boat and the distance it will be shipped will determine the cost of transport. This is why it’s priced between $1 and $3 upward per mileage.

I've used a1 auto transport to ship mine in the past. No complaints with them and would use again. Also used them to ship a car I bought last year and had a similar experience. Seems they operate all over the U.S. so the "to and from" shouldn't really be an issue.
