I wonder where I would find a replacement? Maybe my dealer?

Still on the road, headed home tomorrow. Hope I have time to take a look. I think it is the light, and hope I can confirm. It looks like it had electrical contacts, but they are long strips which something "slides" in to. Not exactly terminals which plug into something. It is an odd setup.
Will have to clear Mrs. Driller stuff out again and maybe see if I can check the backside for wiring. Apparently she thinks the glove box is a second "boat" purse. How the hell women can find stuff when it is all a rat's nest I have no idea, but she can. I look and can't see through the mess. "Can't find it, it's not there" I say. 1/10 of a second later she is holding it up in her hand.
I give her the glove box, the rest of the boat is mine. I am king of my domain:
- My tool chests
- My Car
-1/100 of the garage
Over that I rule.

Don't forget the bathroom with the fan on...

I'll search is a common glove box light. Ready to replace. It should turn on with the courtesy light switch on the helm.

Here's a few more pics.
I believe it is a glove box light receptacle. There's not another light in the glove box so that makes sense. Looks like a light plugged into it in some fashion.
There is another compartment light in the port bow almost directly opposite this doohickey.

Are those metal receptacles on each side, Driller? It's hard to tell from the pic.
I bet there is a "glass fuse type bulb" looking light that pushes in there. Then the white translucent cover (which is missing with yours) snaps into place. At least that's what mine looked like irrc.

Those work great!
Everyone of my cars and my last Cobalt were "converted" to those. Plug and play. If it does not light, just pull out; flip it around; and push back in so correct polarity is sensed. So easy my 10 year old daughter helped at the time---with 100% success.

No it doesn't look like there on contacts on each side they are only black plastic (the reflection from the flash makes them looks like metal), the only contacts I can see are on the very bottom and at the very back, the long shiny brass colored strip. It could be that at the very back there is something similar to what you are describing, but if there is, I can't see it.
I think you are right about the light cover clipping into the front.
I'm gonna look today when I get time and try to find another light onboard with the same set up. Then I can see how she works.
Old age and bifocals.
