Travis and Canyon Lake are on my list of lakes I would like to check out. After moving from Missouri, I realized that winter is way overrated. So, they would have an even longer boating season and I hear good things. It will come down to water clarity and that is using the Table Rock Lake standard. If my wife can't see feet in the water, we won't be spending much time there. PK had clear water on the southern part of the lake and it was wonderful, but it was muddy further north where the rivers drained into it. But, we wouldn't expect to spend much time there.

Welcome from Austin, TX. My Boat is slipped on Travis and there are quite a few others members on Travis or Canyon. If you get down this way be sure and give us a shout.

Captain's report from Lake Murray: we hit the water about 10:45. Wife and I talked about boat launch and she did pretty good. Marina was tight and my nerves were also which made if fun maneuvering the boat for yhr first time in 10 years. She parked the truck and trailer great and we hit the lake. Boat ran great. 380hp Merc made the lake feel small we headed up the East arm of the lake to a beach and dropped anchor and chilled out I couldnt put it on the sand. Floated and chilled and hung out while a sprinkle moved through. Christened Time Well Wasted with some champagne and took some time to appreciate our blessings.

After an hour or so, we loaded up and drove to top of the other leg. Boat ate up the wakes and nothing could wipe the smile off our faces. After running out of Lake again, we anchored in the cove off Elephant Rock campground and had lunch of cheese, crackers, chicken and veggies. It was a nice snack and my wife realized she could sit on the swim step like swim up bar and face the swim deck and eat. Like she needed another reason to love our cobalt!

Finished the day with a cruise and my wife driving the boat. She liked it but let me know her place is in the bow and she didn't really want to drive. Oh well, I'll just have to deal with driving it myself. Wife backed the trailer up really well and we got her loaded. All in all, a great day. Stay tuned for a post about all of our mistakes. I'll post that after th e weekend.

Day 2 on Lake Murray Oklahoma: Had friends drive up from Denton and join us on the boat on Saturday. It rained Friday night and Saturday am started out cloudy with storms to our East moving south. This probably worked to our advantage as it kept a lot of the day boaters at home a little longer, so the marina was very quiet at 10am when we launched the boat. On the way to the marina, we stopped at Wal-Mart and my wife practiced backing up the boat. It was a great way for her to learn the process and how the boat trailer reacted. We only spent about 20 minutes doing it, but it really showed when we got to the marina. She backed it in like a champ and the launch looked like we had done it all our life. This was a big improvement from Friday when I struggled with the wind while she parked the truck. I'm posting some water pics from when we were waiting for the last couple to arrive. First time I was able to get any from the water. All in all the day went smooth with a lot fewer newbie mistakes. In fact, I can't remember anything that I regretted. The clouds passed and the weather turned out to be perfect. Temps in the 80's made sitting in the boat comfortable without feeling suffocated and the water felt perfect. Lake Murray is just under 6,000 acres, but it is pretty clear and we coved out near the dam and the water was very clear. Now for the mistakes for Day 1.

Leave the key FOB in the truck: I have a 2018 F150 Lariat with push button start and I kept the FOB in my pocket when I boarded the boat. As a result, the truck would not come out of park to back the boat the rest of the way into the water.

Pull the damn fenders in: On Friday, I was so amped up about the first day on the boat that we ripped up the East side of the lake to a sandy beach and then realized that we left the fenders on the port side the whole time. I hate doing that, but it made us focus on our launch process more and make a list for when we are getting underway.

Secure all lightweight items if you plan to open up the throttle: I lost my brand new Eskimo Joe's t-shirt that I received as a gift. I loved that shirt and now it is in Lake Murray, but the boat topped out at 52 and ate up the lake.

Lastly, and one I'm still angry about: Don't worry so much about the person pulling you out of the water and if they are doing their job that you forget to do you job like TRIM UP THE LOWER UNIT. That sound took away my appetite and desire to drink a beer. Luckily, it is just a little chewed up with no major damage, so I learned that lesson relatively inexpensively and now my wife and I are both hyper vigilant about checking all of the items on our lists when we are launching or recovering our boat.

Other information from the weekend:

8.7MPG to and from the lake.

48 top speed with 6 adults and 52 with just me and my wife

8.2 380hp big block doesn't breathe very hard even with the fun handle in the forward horizontal position.

The R5 likes to eat up one to two foot chop. Makes me wonder how much smoother the 262 and bigger must be.

The carpet needs to go. It held water all day from the Friday night rain, and that squish under your feet is not desirable. We pulled it all out and brought it home when we put the boat to sleep to make sure it air dried all the way. I would love to hear what other people did to replace the carpet. Is Seagrass better about allowing water to drain. If so, I would say it's worth it?

We need to get creative with using our storage to keep things in order.

After being on sea grass last week for the first time. I noticed it gets very hot when dry. Add water it cools right down. It drains and dries very fast.
The other is sea dek like material. Well get hot also and drains and dries very fast. We never had a issue with our carpet drying in the sun. How wet did you get it. I noticed alot of boats in the south remove the carpet /flooring all together because of the heat. But I would think it will get a bit slippery when wet.
