Yeah I have forscan and an ELM327 Bluetooth adapter for tuning my 7.3 SuperDuty. I’ll poke around and find the PID to enable the trans temp. Thanks!
Cool figured you were a few steps ahead of the game...guess I was right. These are the F150 PID's but I cant imagine yours is different, its the same transmission. Report back what yours is at, I would be surprised if it wasn't running between 195 and 205.
They are in the IPC module.

Sailor. Stay can I say. Hemi less power than a toy. Oh my

who doesn't like to hear a real engine in there vehicle. No fake news in her. Each trim level has diff sound deadening in them. We also offer noise canceling boom exhaust noise gone.
You didn't hit it in the sweet spot then. The 8 speed has a low 1st gear she will get going in a hurry. The trans shifting prob I could see that as your in a rental truck. These trans learn how you drive. So think how many people have been in that truck. Yep the adapts are all messed up. Hey I'm a die hard gm guy but hemi and a new ram I'm in. Get in a new 3/4ton with a Cummins and go 90 down the hwy now tell me what you think. That bad boy just purrs and it's quiet. Ours trans are pretty nice asin makes a nice trans.

I get it BBP. To be clear it was a super nice truck and overall I did like it quite a bit Never thought about an adaptive trans. Always thought that was mostly hype. It was pretty new with 729 miles on it. If I go the truck route it’s definitely a major contender. Next step is 1/2 vs 3/4
Ps. Hemi has more hp than me.

Modern 1/2 Ton trucks are really close in capability to the 3/4 Ton trucks of just a few years ago. My "1/2 Ton" has a GVWR of 7,000lbs and an available payload of 1,550lb and that's low for an F150. Some of the lighter XL or XLT trucks have payload ratings over 1,800lbs. The 3.5 EcoBoost or I GUESS if you have to the 5.7 Hemi will pull the boat without thinking about it.
If you are sticking the /w R3 get a 1/2 Ton and enjoy the comfortable ride and the ability to park in parking garages. Any modern 1/2 Ton should handle the R3 no problem.
If you are thinking of upgrading boats, or if you have something else to tow like a camper, or if you just want a 3/4 Ton truck then start shopping those. They are amazing trucks you just give up a bit of ride quality.
My 2 Cents you didnt ask for.

Sailor as you see most MFG of 1/2 ton trucks are going to give you the safe capacity you need to tow your R3.
My question to you is ... all things being equal.. Which model makes you go WoW!?? As your not towing all the time and it’s sounds like this may be your daily driver and , family escape vehicle.
It’s like the Sequoia that is familiar, and very comfy as it doesn’t have Bed movement behind you nor the noise level a truck will have.
Go drive the Ford F150 ( sorry GM gods) , then the Chevy Silverado, and see which one you would loce to drive daily if you were to never tow anything again.
They all have toys that wow the driver but in the end they will all do what you need.
Just have to find the one that says. “ Yeah!!!!! That’s mine!!!!

The one thing I do dislike about GM is that you have to purchase an elevated trim level to get the good 6.2L V8. Ford offers the 3.5 EcoBoost on every trim level XL to Platinum. But they do have that neat tailgate. Just something to think about.

I rented a 2108 Ram 1500 Crew to tow my 2106 Cobalt 210 from the lake to the dealership for winter storage. I found the truck had plenty of power to tow the boat and didn't hunt for gears or act funny in any way. I also had one for a week earlier last year while our car was being repaired.
I think the Ram 1500 beats all of the 1/2 tons out there with respect to ride quality. If you are using it as a daily driver, that is important to me. I'm sensitive to "droning" exhausts, but at 65 mph, I didn't notice any. I also don't care for CC in boats, preferring to "walk quietly and carry a big engine"
My second choice would be a Ford F150. I'd like to try that truck with diesel. In Canada, it becomes an expensive engine option because you can't buy it in a base truck - but my company is on the fleet vehicle program with Ford so I can get around that.

I've heard good things about the 3.0 Power Stroke, but at that price point I'd just step up to a 3/4 ton with the 6.7 which you can get in any trim level. Personally I'd rather have an XL or XLT Superduty with the 6.7 than a Lariat or Platinum F150 with the 3.0.

I’ve had a 3/4 Ram with Cummins before. Not again as a daily driver in the city for me. I know a lot must have changed since 2004 but the rough ride, poor turning circle and poor heat up times in winter, put it out of my interest. They might be great tow vehicles, but I think you give up too much in daily comfort. If I was towing my boat more than the twice a year I do, I might see the need. Having said that, when I was show jumping, my 2500 diesel pulled my two horse gooseneck with living quarters brilliantly.

Sorry Bob in15 years they have changed a tiny bit. I bleed GM blue. But I really like every Ram truck. I even own half of one that is my son's. He came off a Silverado. Hate to say it. I have yet to hear him say wow that hemi is a dog compared to my old Chevy and I wish I bought another. I would drive any Ram as a daily. Heck I'll even take a 5500.

The problem /w the 3.0L PowerStroke in the F150 platform is GVWR. The PowerStroke is heavy, combine that w/ the fact that Ford decided to only option it in the higher trim trucks, which are also heavy, and you are going to run out of payload for tongue weight long before you hit any towing limits.
Boats help that some since they are light on the tongue, but depending on what is in the bed we are still close to GVWR in our F150 with the boat hooked up. Just something to think about.

Given that I don't tow enough to justify buying a truck, I'll defer to those more knowledgable than me. I haven't done much research on the recent trucks.

I know you drive a lot unloaded so from a mpg perspective the PowerStroke makes sense. I did some searching on a Ford Forum I am a member of and found a guy /w a 2018 Platinum trim /w 1650lbs of payload which is actually pretty decent. Your R3 weighs about what our 222 does so I would expect around 525 to 550lbs on the trailer tongue. That would leave you w/ 1100 to play /w for people and stuff in the bed.
Get the baby PowerStroke and let us know how it goes lol.

The Ram 1500 with the hemi is a nice truck but I wouldn’t be able to stand the poor fuel economy in the city. The Ram will get a diesel option back this year, so I’ll have a second look. The Hemi gets about 13 mpg in the city which is a non starter for me.

Look what we found. I had to get out and take a picture. Should have waited for the owner to get out of the store, but that seemed a little stalkerish.
You have to admit the F150 is the better looking truck.
