Well, I spoke too soon. The buyer backed out on account that the Merc suggested top end rebuilds at around 200-250 hours were completed by a previous deep-pocket owner. Instead of a lengthy top end valve job by a machine shop, the owner elected to replace with Dart aftermarket alum heads vs. rebuilding the severely overpriced OEM Merc spec Edelbrock heads. I understand his concern, but any 13 year old piece of equipment likely has been opened during its lifetime.
All other inspections were completed and boat passed with a clean bill of health!
Oh well......Worst case, I still have a sweet 343 ready to go for the season!

I'd take aluminum Dart heads over the cast iron stockers any day...

Yes the Dart heads are purpose built just for that engine ( not automotive) . Edelbrock makes the heads for mercury but only with a mercury part number so there $$ of course. There Aluminum as well.
Shouldn’t have been a deal killer. I think the buyer was looking for a reason to step out of the deal. The Marine Dart heads are special so get the information on them so the next buyer can see the advantages!
