I have trusted it all winter and no issues with either engine. If you are under warranty you still want to have it winterized just so you have the paperwork in hand.

Really? My dealer didn't say anything about that. They just said hit the drain button and put some antifreeze in the reservoir to be safe.

My dealer didn't tell me to have the paperwork. And they wouldn't tell me to trust or not trust the system. The only thing they would state is "follow the Owners Manual". One of the techs told me he drains then runs a gallon of marine antifreeze thru the flush port then drains again.

The motor itself is self cooled via coolant and the heat exchanger. So worst case you have a failure and you would need a new heat exchanger. Which is a way cheaper fix than a new motor. Come to think of it. I had a different dealer at the stl show tell me the same thing. So I’m guessing that since this is now year 3 of the quick drain motors they are figuring it all out.

I had the dealer in Branson winterize mine, thats exactly what they did. Drain, circulate, drain.

Don’t you still have to have the lower unit oil changed?

My dealer is saying every other year on the Volvo with synthetic oil. Book says every year, but I assume they know what they are doing. They still check it every year to ensure it is full and has no water contamination.

I would say every other year also. Just depends on how many hours you put on also.

Dealer told me the same thing, said oil every year.
