I would....not doing so could lead to blocked pathways.....kind of a pain, but better than a new engine.

So did you get all the pieces out?

I checked the heat exchanger. Found a piece of it. Did many flushes since. Not sure where else it can get caught.

Good idea AJ.. if it found the heat exchanger possible oil cooler also... take a good listen for any warning chimes on your outing unless your confident it's flushed... you may not have a dash indacator for oil temp.

Yes you need to find them. The power steering cooler can catch them. They get stuck in the thermostat. The oil cooler. Some even in the fuel cooler.

Any tips or manual graphics on how to check the fuel, power steering, and oil cooler? I am not aware that the fresh water passed thru these.

I forgot you had the closed cooling system. Those little pieces can get stuck in that exchanger. Follow the inlet hose and the outlet hose. I spent a bunch of time trying to find a good picture or diagram for you but I couldn't come up with any without getting too deep in a manual.

Dang, fortunately it happened on the dock and not while you were out on the water.

I've had a few trips ruined by impeller issues. The worst was a trip to Powell in the early 2000's with my dad on his 1998 252. Woke up super early on a Friday, did the 5 hour drive to Powell, launched, headed up the lake for an hour or so to a camp spot. Beached, unloaded, set up camp, back on the boat to go explore, got about 100 yards from the beach and the impeller seized up.

So....reverse the process. Limped her back to the beach (had to pull the serp belt since the raw water pump wouldn't turn), found a nice guy nearby who offered to tow us back to the marina, packed up camp, got towed back to the marina, loaded her back on the trailer, and did another 5 hour drive home. That was a long day.

I've had two other trips ruined in similar fashion, although on lakes that are closer to home so not as big of a deal. Now I do the impeller every year, and always keep a spare on board as well as the tools to replace on the water.
