Coping finished. Fireplace taking shape... where oh where to put the bar. Once we figure that out the gas line will be dug for grill (I can't imagine a world without me lugging propane tanks around) and then patio will be poured. I know some are stone/paver elitists but I'm digging the stamped concrete. It was a save to spend mentality - concrete instead of bluestone got me a firepit/bar and better coping/stairs/pebble. Life is about choices, ya know?

You will enjoy using natural gas. I pulled out and sold my stone back patio pavers years ago. Poured a cement patio. No more weeds poking through .

Stamped concrete has come a long way, and in my opinion can look better than actual stone. In a former life I designed concrete forms and stamps, the admixes used will provide a lifetime of crack free enjoyment, and the color is mixed in the slurry so it will never fade. Looking awesome, you should put in a swim up bar, then you don't need to worry about heating the water .

I actually kicked around the idea of moving the bottom patio up a few feet to make that happen... I was getting a little out of hand.

We installed a natural flag stone walkway and entryway from our circle to our front door. Stupid expensive, labor intensive with all of the cutting, and well...ho-hum. It’s nice, but not worth the cost IMO. Actually, I don’t even like the look. Blah...
If we could do it again, we would have done stamped. As Akor stated, stamped has come a long way, in both color and style. It just requires annual sealing without fail. Our climate is not concrete (surface) friendly.

I don’t know if it’s an option, but may I suggest to not pour concrete this season if possible. That is a whole lot of fill brought in, and although it may have been compacted and the contractor may say that’s it’s going to be fine, that amount will still settle over the winter and spring. Bank on that....
Lots of cash to still spend on concrete, and you will want it looking perfect for years to come.

I agree. I’m a little torn as I want to use the fire pit now and I NEED my grill back. I grill basically 4 nights a week including through the winter and right now I’m grilling in my driveway like a mook. There’s still plenty of work and time left. I’m not hurrying.
